There is no legal basis whatsoever for the UK and a coalition of 30 states to use force to “open” the Strait of Hormuz. An effort to create this basis via a Security Council resolution was vetoed this past Tuesday by China/Russia. That was their one and only route & its now gone
Furkan Gözükara@FurkanGozukara

Absolute bombshell. UK PM Keir Starmer confirms he is actively coordinating with Donald Trump to build a massive 30 nation military coalition to force open the Strait of Hormuz. They are using the ceasefire as a cover to prepare for a massive escalation against Iran.

Stephen Bell was asked by the Islamic Republic News Agency to provide a response to the ceasefire/negotiations announcement. This links to the delivery in Farsi: t.me/irna_1313 The original text follows: The ceasefire and opening of negotiations on Iran’s ten-pointplan to end the war represents a setback for US imperialism. Initially, the US government believed it would secure “regime change” in Iran by assassinations, extensive bombing and a manufactured “uprising” inside the country. Clearly the US has not achieved its central war aim. The population have rallied around the government’s defence of Iranian sovereignty, thus preventing the destruction of the independent Iranian state. With the ceasefire, the US has accepted negotiations on Iran’s agenda. This itself is a recognition that the US has failed to impose its agenda on Iran, let alone achieved Trump’s demand for “unconditional surrender”. Of course, US imperialism will attempt to reassert its agenda, inside and outside negotiations. But the shift in its position cannot be overturned by rhetoric. The Trump administration has seen the US bases in the Persian Gulf states destroyed. It has seen its key allies’ fracture, particularly in Europe with a growing number of governments refusing US access to bases or air space for the war.  This has been the biggest such fracture since the war on Iraq in 2003. And there has been the growth of a huge opposition inside the US. Trump has recorded the lowest ever approval rating in modern US history – including an unprecedented loss of support at the start of a war of intervention. Nor has the US been able to use its allies to overcome its military failures. Firstly, Trump attempted to bully his alliesinto committing armed forces to military action to open the Strait of Hormuz.  After this failure the US government tried to provide international legitimacy to such action through the Bahrain resolution to the UN Security Council.  That also failed and perhaps was decisive in his decision not to carry out his threat of destroying Iran “in a single night”. Those pushing the hardest for a continuation of the war are disappointed.  Israeli opposition leader, Yair Lapid, tweeted “There has never been such a political disaster in all ourhistory”. This is an exaggeration for the benefit of Israeli voters, but the exclusion of the Israeli government from the process is a hefty blow for the Netanyahu cabinet. Doubtless they will continue to try and undermine the ceasefire – as they are doing in Lebanon today.  It will be up to Trump to demonstrate his control of negotiations by shutting down further aggression by the Israeli tool of the US government. In the meantime, the negotiations will hold the attention and hopes of most of the peoples in the world. Should the US once more break down an agreed ceasefire and peace process then the global opposition will grow in defence of the Iranian people.

The situation around the war is moving very fast. The interview with Yemeni TV in Sanaa with Stephen Bell was conducted just before the announcement of the negotiations & ceasefire. It is still of interest.

Israeli transgressions of the ceasefire agreement are also US transgressions of the agreement. Israel requires complete and constant US support in order to conduct its military operations in Lebanon. The US does not believe it has to stick to agreements - so it does not. It remains important that people demand: #HandsOffIran
Brian Berletic@BrianJBerletic

🇺🇸/IRAN - US is Already Undermining Fake Ceasefire It Never Had any Intention of Upholding The US and its Israeli proxies (who are incapable of conducting military operations without complete and constant US support, meaning Israeli transgressions are also US transgressions) have already violated the ceasefire agreement along multiple points. As was 100% predictable. The sort of people who started such an outrageously unwarranted, illegal, and murderous war of choice are INCAPABLE of agreeing to a just and lasting peace. These violations include the continued punitive bombing of Lebanon and the US again demanding no uranium enrichment which Iran is and has always been entitled to under international law. The point on uranium enrichment in particular, which never was any of Washington's business and only made an issue by the US to impede Iranian development and as a means of falsely justifying an otherwise indefensible war, demonstrates how fundamentally in bad faith the US has and continues to act. After yet another extremely predictable betrayal from a verified agreement-incapable nation, I find it amazing there are still people allowing themselves to be strung along by this very deliberate process of political compartmentalization and buying time and space for continued death and destruction. Believing the US will change its fundamental character without fundamentally changing its system first is like expecting one day to find water no longer being wet and up becoming down. Images below: Here is US President Trump openly saying after the ceasefire was announced, there will be no uranium enrichment. In other messages Trump has threatened nations arming Iran. The purpose of that threat is to prevent Iran from arming and defending itself against INEVITABLE aggression the US and its proxies are already planning and preparing for. The US = agreement incapable.

Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel tells Newsweek: - Our peoples deserve peace, the opportunity to live in an environment of friendship, to cooperate, and to enjoy full freedom to forge a genuine relationship of good neighborliness. - Any US operation against Cuba would “result in immense losses” for both countries. - Cuba will defend itself to the hilt. #CubaNoEstáSola

Contrary to many reports in the media of the US and its allies: overwhelmingly most Iranians do not want a US/Israel/former monarchy take over of their country. Iranians formed human chains on bridges and around power plants when Trump threatened to destroy them all. #HandsOffIran
Vijay Prashad@vijayprashad

The most remarkable part of this US/Israel imposed illegal on Iran is the vitalisation of the patriotic sentiments of the Iranian people to defend their country. This photograph moves me greatly.

Spain is setting an example of how Europe ought to act: - calling for the international community to condemn Israel's latest violation of international law - and for the European Union to suspend its Association Agreement with Israel. The EU & UK are siding with war-mongers, and only criticise Iran and Hezbollah because they respond to US/Israel military attacks.

The US & Iran ceasefire agreement, "including Lebanon", had been immediately reneged on. The US has supported Israel making attacking 100+ targets in 10 minutes in Beirut. In West Asia, as elsewhere, the US has a very long history of not respecting agreements that it makes. #HandsOffLebanon

Chaos in Beirut as Israel carries out a wave of airstrikes across the country hitting what it said were more than 100 targets in ten minutes.

The US is already reneging on the agreement. It is endorsing Israel's stepped up slaughter in Lebanon. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, the intermediary that secured the ceasefire agreement, was very clear that the US and Iran agreed "an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere". So called 'ceasefires' were previously agreed by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon, but it has continued the attacks on both, with US support. US failure to respect the agreement it reached with Iran, mediated by Pakistan, does not bode well. #HandsOffLebanon #HandsOffIran
Shehbaz Sharif@CMShehbaz

With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes. Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days! @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

Chinese assistance is helping increase Cuba's electricity generation. - According to the Financial Times : "Cuba is offsetting power blackouts and shortages worsened by Donald Trump’s near-total oil blockade with the help of soaring imports of solar technology from China." "China shipped $117mn of solar panels to Cuba last year, up from $48mn in 2024 and $16.6mn in 2019. Imports of battery storage from China also surged to $56mn worth last year from $7.3mn in 2024. Some $15mn of batteries were imported in January this year alone..." "How the regime has funded the Chinese solar equipment remains opaque, although the 2026 economic plan says 320MW of technology was donated by Beijing." "Chinese solar panel donations have included rooftop kits for isolated homes, schools and hospitals." It is vital that Cuba receives more help like this, plus countries should, following Russia's lead, supply oil - as this is essential for transport and other areas of the economy. #CubaNoEstáSola ft.com/content/8ea8cb…

The use of Britain by the US as its own private launchpad for illegal wars has been truly exposed over these last weeks. The demand for an end to US use of bases in Britain has gained prominence.
BBC Newsnight@BBCNewsnight

“I think the British public wants to be disassociated, not just in principle but in practice, from Donald Trump’s aggression against the Iranian people” Former RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch believes the UK should not allow the US to use its military bases “at all” #Newsnight
