Jerry Orbach was very underrated. He was good in any role. He passed away in 2004.

@stojmarina I think a part of it is a fear that they'll land up delivering less. Especially amongst an ambitious group of people. Just a theory of course ☺️

This is what happens when everything is marked as high priority. Stakeholders feel reassured seeing their features “In Progress,” but the truth? Nobody wins. Nothing gets finished, and progress stalls.

@Kimmy_Coleen Google! (I can't wait until I don't have to work with MS anymore). The reason is Search. It's woeful in MS.

@NDemblon At this point, 90% of what I read from Paul G is, in my humble opinion, either a wild simplification or a mad fallacy.

He is - once again - so wrong. Like in business, you might dislike the person but always remember you don't have to marry them. You simply need to have them do the right thing for you - focus on their policies, on what they did/going to do. Focus on ideas, not personality traits. Don't go ad hominem, but think through the argument.

@JustAnotherPM Yes definitely! The best engineers I've worked with want to come to client/customer calls This helps determine feasibility very early plus means they contribute very meaningfully to writing up the user stories.

Product managers -- be honest. Do you really "involve engineers early?"

1995 was almost 30 years ago, not “about 10 or 15” years ago as I’ve said out loud a few times. Just thought I’d share that.

@themgmtconsult This story made me laugh 😆 I'm definitely like your wife (I look for the rules), but I like to have a few "opportunists" in my life that I can leverage to break the rules 😆

Let me tell you a story of how two different brains work... My wife and I drove 1.5 hours to visit School A, a potential choice for our daughter next year. School A was quick to set up a tour, so everything went smoothly there. 3 minutes drive from School A is School B, which we were also interested in. Unlike School A, getting in touch with School B was a struggle: we tried for 3 days to arrange a visit, only to be told "We'll have the right person call you back." Needless to say... that call never came. Now, since School A and B are both 1.5 hours from where we currently live, I wanted to make the most of our trip. So I said to my wife: "Let’s just go to School B and see if someone can show us around." My wife was furious 🤯🤯🤯 She insisted they would call back, that we couldn not just show up and expect them to drop everything for us. She even called me 'arrogant' for thinking I could just walk in and get their time on the spot!! WTF! But I think the key of what happened is that our "problem-solving" approaches differ fundamentally... My wife looks for rules. She asks: "What's the proper way to handle this?" I, on the other hand, look for opportunities. I ask: "How can I influence people to make this work?" I don't know which approach is "better" or more effective, but what I know is that, after much discussion, we eventually showed up at School B and ended up getting a tour from the principal right then and there! MORAL There's more than one way to solve a problem but, sometimes, you've got to take a chance and step outside the rules to get what you need. This is a true story! And do you think I got the right moral out of it?
