We have reached the summit of the #2026NHLDraft At long last, I present my final rankings of the year - another full 224, with analysis for all players in some way, shape, or form We've seen consensus grow, now dive into Foley's annual mess of a board: substacktools.com/sharex/ANxRY2Kt

Building accessible, historical data is a challenge facing the young generation of hockey data scientists. And I have a sense that they'll nail it within the next decade.

Here's a fun show of how quickly data dries up in the hockey world My GM cards lean on three sources - NHL GM Repository, NHL Historical Draft data, and Hockey Reference. All very accessible. To add AGM or Scouting data... only 1 source, a subscription to the EliteProspects API

Jonah Neuenschwander, #NHLDraft eligible, is a 6'3 Power Forward with an absolutely disgusting release. He's physical, competitive, and lives in front of the net. Combine that with good wheels and a responsible two-way game and you're looking at a pretty exciting prospect. Look for him to be in our Pre-Season Top 10. #2027NHLDraft #NHLDraft2027 #HockeyTwitter #HockeyProspects #HlinkaGretzky #HlinkaMemorial @PuckBunkerBoyce @puckbunker

Absolutely. Dave Taylor picked up some icons... including two who didn't stop playing until 20 years after he stepped down from the big chair. He also picked Olli Jokinen, Joe Carvo, Frank Kaberle in the late 90s That's what success in the draft is all about. #GoKingsGo

@NHLFoley This reminds me that Dave Taylor was the guy who drafted Quick, Kopitar and Brown. Are you willing to share Taylor’s card?

@200iqflamesfan Honzek is the highest overall pick of Conroy’s to not play NHL games, so he is at 3 behind the two who have played NHL

Craig Conroy's picks have generally fallen in-line with consensus/CSS rankings through his early classes. Reschny, Potter, Stockselius, Hextall, Trejbal. The B-picks are either in-line or steals. Smart way to go when you're building a program from the ground-up. #Flames

Drafted the player in front of him, didn't look at the fluff. Ended up with a ton of pros in his system. Kempe and Roy continue to succeed. Doughty might get the 'C', Schenn got it in St Louis Pretty cool repertoire put together by the #GoKingsGo and Lombardi in their heyday

Innovation is the most popular term in 90% of business. It's rarely used in hockey. That leaves immense potential for those who find how to embrace it. When I think of innovative coaching, I think of @drewcarlsonhp's page. Posts that make you think. I recommend.

@MartinDevon Quick was the year prior! So he’s overshadowed by Kopitar here. But it is weird that he’s not in the table on the left - I’ll have to troubleshoot that

@NHLFoley Iirc Jonathan Quick was drafted in a later round after Bernier that same year. Seems like a noteworthy pick.

@MikeMoore314 High numbers across the board speak to little consistency from pick to pick. So what he “favored” varied lots compared to other GMs. So numbers are high across the board b/c he touched multiple buckets A GM like Don Sweeney is a good example of low stats / consistent picks
Foley@NHLFoley

Don Sweeney has my kinda card. Avoids the CHL at most cost, while championing NCAA and European hockey. Clear to see the impacts of that in his top picks One interesting note- there seems to be little predicting Sweeney's next pick. Ignores consensus and takes his guy... usually

@NHLFoley help me understand, how does a GM seemingly “favor” all of those qualities, like 6’2>, and goalies, and defenseman, etc? With finite draft capital, I would expect a GM can’t over-index on all of them simultaneously.

Ron Hextall is another great example of the value of a full scouting department. Drafted some core pieces in Philly but didn't find a spark in Pittsburgh. Developed his players well either way. Those Philly picks have really come along.

@NHLFoley Unfortunately, if there’s not a good way to communicate it, then it doesn’t provide any context. I think changing it to the number they were drafted would be much more valuable. Just my 2c tho

Lots of new followers after these GM Cards. Appreciate all of y'all. Let's ask - what do you want to see? From these GM cards or future hockey data cards? Always welcome new ideas, critiques, and thoughts on what the hockey world doesn't have yet. What do you want next?

Bergevin drafted small forwards and big defenders. Found some pro talent either way but had more long-term success with one of those groups than the other. #GoHabsGo
