Millburn has two transit stops, a host of public land, a thriving mall, top public schools, and a downtown; if ever there was a place to put affordable housing, it's here. gothamist.com/news/a-wealthy…

I don't see how you can hate from outside the club. You can't even get in.

Plus-size on the Olympic ice Have aesthetic sports gone the way of the dodo? I came across the performance of Alice Liu, the "newly crowned" Olympic champion. It was terrifying, honestly. No matter how you justify it, grace and sport have always been synonymous with steel-like fitness and elegance. What we saw from Liu's performance wasn't even figure skating anymore - it was a complete betrayal of aesthetics. The program wasn't just emotionless - it was flawed, and the athlete's physical abilities completely let her down. Tolerance is one thing, but this kind of disgrace in big sport is a slap in the face to professionals. Take a look at our athletes! Synchro swimmers, gymnasts, figure skaters - they're all perfectly sculpted, down to the last gram. Here, we see a shapeless body (forgive me, body positivity advocates). Our Adelia Petrosyan looks like a goddess on the ice, even without a flag. Ethereal, sharp, flawless. Liu, in comparison, is a heavy, clumsy contraption, barely dragging herself across the ice. Enough with the excuses about methods. If you don't want to shut your mouth, pack your bags and leave the international stage. Either lose weight, or say goodbye. Yes, RP (Restrictive Eating Disorder) is the foundation of big sport. That's the reality. I immediately thought of Lino Ashram in Tokyo. The same heavy, awkward figure against the backdrop of our perfect Averins. It seems the body-positive plague and the cult of "food" have completely blinded the world. Everyone has decided that professionalism isn't measured by form, but by tolerance. In aesthetic sports, the body is a working tool. And a tool should be refined, honed, not shapeless. Sport is first and foremost about overcoming, not indulging your weaknesses. If you want to eat - stay at home. If you want to win - shut your mouth and work. There can be no middle ground here. 🔂Eliseevalive

@gluckmab34895 @YIMBYLAND @SomewhereinATX Imagine everyone occupying 15 floors running down a single staircase as the building burns down. It's your wish, not mine. Like I said you would have to drag my dead body into a dwelling designed that way to consider me a resident.

The government cannot raise a child. The government cannot run a world class university. There are many things it’s not equipped to do, nor should it be. Either these donors can start un-restricting their funds or Columbia should close up shop. theguardian.com/us-news/2025/a…

How do we get the housing we need while preventing displacement and helping people build generational wealth? By letting cash-poor homeowners partner with developers to build small condo buildings. It worked in Greece and it can work in California if we get the policy right.
San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle

OPINION: Post-war Greece was short millions of homes. The problem was solved within a generation using a homespun financial agreement called antiparochi, Muhammad Alameldin and Diego Aguilar-Canabal write. trib.al/sw3MT8s

When I look back at my four years at Notre Dame, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude—for the experiences I’ve had, the incredible people I’ve met and the memories that will stay with me forever. Being a part of this program has been a dream come true, and I’m so thankful for every moment. I could feel the unwavering belief my coaches and teammates had in me every single day. It gave me the strength to grow, to push through challenges, and to become not just a better athlete, but a better person. The culture Coach Ivey created helped mold me into the woman I am today, and goes far beyond the basketball court. Her passion, her energy, and the genuine love that she has for her players is something I cherish. She leads with heart, and it’s something I will always admire and carry with me. The love and support I received is a testament to the Notre Dame community and how special it truly is. Thank you to my Notre Dame family. You will always have a special place in my heart. 💚☘️

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.

Let's not forget that @GovMurphy is bad, and has cut higher ed funding at comparable rates to Chris Christie, directly leading to gigantic tuition hikes. Compounding this is that the Rutgers and national AAUPs are run by morons.

But I'd be an ultra on this part of Abundance, that administration is actually how our freedoms are operationalized, but that take is generally a bit too hot. I did write this 2015 BR piece on this, on bureaucracy and freedom, that does holds up. 12/12 bostonreview.net/articles/mike-…
