Important Reminder: The use of model rockets is prohibited during a Level 2 Fire Ban—which is currently in effect throughout the district. At approximately 2:30 p.m. on March 23, E64 and Brush 67 were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire at the Broomfield Remote Control Drone Airfield Park. Upon arrival, crews located a small grass fire in flat terrain with a slow rate of spread. Using tactics recently practiced during annual wildland training, crews initiated a direct attack. During suppression efforts, winds increased, causing the fire to grow to approximately seven acres. Additional resources were requested, and a pre-evacuation warning was issued for nearby neighborhoods. A coordinated mobile attack by multiple units allowed crews to quickly contain the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire was determined to be accidental and human-caused. An individual using model rockets in dry grass sparked the fire. We appreciate our partner agencies, including @WestyFire and @BroomfieldPD, for their assistance. Thank you to the community members who called 911 after seeing smoke—early notification makes a critical difference. With current conditions, it doesn’t take much to start a wildfire. Please follow all fire restrictions and use extreme caution outdoors. Photo Info: These images were captured by dash cameras on apparatus operating at the scene.

Our wildland firefighters at the Qury Fire in South Dakota received a special gift from local children today. “The local kids decorated our bags. Very cool support from locals,” texted Engine Boss Craig Talbot when he sent the photo. Thanks in part to generosity like this, the crew is in good spirits. They continue to assist with perimeter control.

On Feb. 17 at approximately 3:30 p.m., following an immediate need request from the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management for a rapidly developing fire in Elbert and Lincoln Counties, North Metro Fire deployed a Type III brush truck with an engine boss, three firefighters, and a task force Leader in a chase vehicle to the vegetation fire. On arrival, North Metro Fire wildland team members partnered with crews from South Adams, Adams County, and Brighton to form a strike team. Together, they worked through the night to help stop forward progress, contain the fire, and complete mop-up operations. Last night, crews faced: 🌡️ Temperatures in the 20s 💨 Sustained winds ❄️ Frozen hose lines 🔥 Multiple spot fires Their efforts, in conjunction with those of multiple other agencies, paid off. The fire is now contained, and though it ultimately burned an estimated 5,000–10,000 acres, no structures were lost. Our crews were demobilized at 7:00 a.m. and returned safely home. We’re proud to support our regional partners when it matters most. This response reflects the depth of preparation, coordination, and commitment required in today’s year-round wildland fire environment.

On Monday, January 5, at approximately 3:30 p.m., North Metro Fire Engine 67 and Medic 64 responded to a reported large smoke column near the Northwest Parkway and 96th Street. Upon arrival, crews encountered a fast-moving brush fire driven by high winds and dry conditions. The incident occurred and remained entirely within the City of Louisville’s jurisdiction in Boulder County, with the Louisville Fire Protection District serving as Incident Command. Firefighters from five additional agencies were also operating on scene in a coordinated response. Working in tandem with these agencies, our firefighters quickly scaled up the response, requesting multiple resources and establishing defenses on the east side of the incident along Highway 287. Meanwhile, a District Operations Center for command support and regional coordination was set up at North Metro Fire Headquarters in Broomfield. Battalion Chiefs 61 and 62, Engine 61, Brush Truck 61, Brush Engine 65, Engine 68, Engine 66, Brush Truck 66, SAM 61, Chief 61 and PIO 61 worked closely with regional partners while evaluating conditions for advanced fire suppression tactics. The Division of Fire Prevention and Control was also on scene. After careful reconnaissance and evaluation, North Metro Fire implemented a highly technical firing operation near Highway 287 and Dillon Road that removed fuels directly in the fire’s path. While wildland special team members completed approximately a half-acre firing operation, engines protected the fire line and monitored the median and east side of Highway 287 for spot fires. These tactics were instrumental in stopping the fire’s forward progress, preventing further spread into Broomfield. In challenging conditions that were primed for rapid fire growth, the speed, coordination, and expertise of North Metro Fire crews—alongside our regional partners—led to a successful outcome and helped protect the community in a time of urgent need. We were proud to work beside our North Area partners including @WestyFire @MVFireRescue @boulder_fire @BoulderRuralFD @BoulderRescue @BldrCOSheriff @BroomfieldPD @COStateFire @CSP_News
