This exchange just happened on the Senate floor. Cornyn: “I don’t understand how the SAVE Act disenfranchises voters.” Durbin: “Happy to explain. Driver’s licenses don’t qualify under the bill. 50% of Americans don’t have passports.” Cornyn: “Why not just amend it?” Durbin: “When’s the last time the Senate actually amended a bill?” Silence. The SAVE Act requires passport-level documentation to register to vote. 50% of Americans don’t have a passport. The people least likely to have passports: the elderly, the poor, rural Americans, young first-time voters. The people most likely to have passports: wealthy Americans. This is not voter protection. This is voter selection. And when a senator suggested fixing it — his own colleague couldn’t name the last time the Senate amended anything. That’s the Senate in 2026.

Last night in San Antonio I met two traumatized young boys who were locked up for 6 weeks at Trump’s “baby prison” in Texas. Taken when they checked in for a routine hearing, their mother waiting in the car with their backpacks for school. It’s insane this is happening.

Trump calls violent insurrectionists “peaceful,” then his administration labels a mother of three shot in her car by an ICE agent a “domestic terrorist.” This is the Big Lie in action — and it’s how authoritarianism works.

Photographer @mostafabassim1 photographed this boy walking home alone with a snack being "randomly" approached by DHS. "After he was unable to produce documentation proving his citizenship, agents informed him that he was under arrest." He said, "Can I just go home?" Answer: No.

I need your help with something. On Saturday afternoon, @NBCLA, the NBC station in Los Angeles, aired a 30-minute propaganda advertisement for Scientology. I happened to stumble upon it and was in shock when I realized what was airing. Scientology has often bought 30-second and 1-minute TV ads (mostly on local television). It is something I strongly object to, but allowing Scientology to buy a full 30-minute block of airtime is unacceptable. Someone who knows nothing about Scientology and happened to watch this program would not realize that it was a paid advertisement and might reasonably assume it was programming produced or endorsed by NBC, which could lead them into Scientology. The propaganda program centered around Dianetics, a pseudopsychological book written by L. Ron Hubbard that masquerades as a mental-health book but is, in reality, an entry point into Scientology — a dangerous, fascistic organization that seeks to destroy the lives of its members and their families. Nothing about Dianetics or Scientology is helpful or rooted in science. Even critics and skeptics of psychology and psychiatry do not endorse Dianetics and Scientology. For a major network to present this material in this way is deeply alarming. I understand that Scientology has been purchasing increasing amounts of advertising time across the country, but this crosses a line.
