. Another day, another set of lies from Holtec, the company decommissioning both the Indian Point and the Oyster Creek nuclear plants. Exactly how does a package get delivered & “no individuals or members of the public were exposed to the radiation”? app.com/story/news/loc…

@BethDavidson17 @MondaireJones A sold-out event! Guess folks didn’t get the answers they were looking for from the pre-screened questions at Lawler’s TELEPHONE ‘Town Hall’ (none of his supporters have the internet?) He’s wrong on Healthcare, wrong on Veterans, wrong on Unions, wrong on the Environment & more.

Great to be in Peekskill for a town hall to which Mike Lawler was invited to defend his vote to cut Medicaid and his $1.7M in support from Elon Musk, who is gutting the Department of Education, the VA, our national parks and more. The theater was packed and the overflow crowd across the street easily 250+ and UNITED in our desire to vote Mike Lawler OUT! #MissingMike #ElonandFelon

@MondaireJones One would think that JD would be better informed about the legal system. Deciding on arguments made by attorneys is pretty much a judge’s job description - and since Marbury v Madison has included ruling on the use of power by the executive branch. Failing an open book test.

I am so sorry to hear this. The cumulative effects of so many aspects of our lives have put many people at greater risk from any specific health event. I’m still working to oppose exposure to radiation from nuclear plants & nuke waste but am not doing it on this platform as much.

A family member who was my age & working in healthcare has died in their sleep, and I am struggling to process this loss. The New Normal is a phantasmagoria of tragedy and existential horrors.

I had to leave entirely for similar reasons. Dipping a toe in because of the overwhelming importance of the current elections - particularly in my Congressional district where a true environmentalist, @MondaireJones is running against a MAGA incumbent who pretends to be moderate. Hope I can stick it out until November.

Having a viral post on this app usually ends with me hating people to such an extent, I have to step away. The condescending & evil replies are mostly from bots & chaos agents that are directly funded by the same billionaires & corporate overlords who *directly* profit from our suffering & the predatory criminal schemes that make up much of American society, but when there’s 20,000 of these hate-filled replies simultaneously, it’s a grueling business. When society collapses, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Thank you NRDC Action Fund for your endorsement! Unlike my oil and gas lobbyist opponent, I am committed to protecting the Lower Hudson Valley from climate change by expanding our clean energy infrastructure and putting the power sector on a path to net-zero emissions.

UPDATE: I just got out of jail and this is my testimony: Women are 14X more likely than men to be killed by climate disasters and those that live are far more likely to be forced into caregiving roles as a result. The climate crisis is a feminist issue.
Planet Over Profit@pop4climate

BREAKING: Dozens of feminists arrested outside @Citi CEO Jane Fraser's home in Manhattan. Fraser is torching our planet. We fight for liberation. We fight to live.

. In addition: “Power from SMNRs will probably be MORE expensive than electricity from large nuclear plants with their history of cost increases.” But of course that’s only one of the reasons that SMNRs are a terrible idea: “Liquid sodium and molten salt reactors pre-dating the ARC and Moltex SMR designs were unreliable and dangerous.”

. Can’t really say that this is my ‘favorite’ reason to oppose nuclear power, but it is probably the easiest one for other climate activists to understand We need to use every $ to replace as much fossil fuel as possible: 1 Nuclear power is too expensive compared to alternatives. Wind and solar both undercut nuclear power rates. The authoritative Lazard energy analysis for 2023 costed storage-backed onshore wind and solar at US $42 to $114 per megawatt-hour, compared to nuclear power at US $141 to $221.

So, when anyone says "we need new nuclear," just reply "investing the same money instead in solar PV produces 5.3 x the energy over 65 years" That is due to the higher capital cost (15.7 x) and longer delays between planning + operation (17-20 y vs 1-3 y) of nuclear
Mark Z. Jacobson@mzjacobson

@herrbrendan $35 bil buys 35 GW of PV x 8760h/y x 23.2% CF in GA= 71.1 TWh/yr of PV 2.23 GW of nuc x 8,760h/y x 0.9 CF = 17.6 TWh/yr of nuc -> Vogtle has cost Georgia 53.5 TWh/y going forward, and 71.1 TWh/y for the past 15 y since Vogtle was planned 2006+PV could have started 2008

If there are any lawyers out there -- does this ruling imply that an entity could build a spent fuel storage facility WITHOUT a license if state law did not prohibit it?

Although I have concerns about consolidated spent fuel storage, there could be many potential negative consequences from this ruling, which throws out the baby with the bathwater. news.yahoo.com/texas-nuclear-…

@dorfman_p And: PV solar "cost 29% less than the cheapest fossil fuel-fired solution in 2022." "In 2022, the renewable power deployed globally since 2000 saved an estimated USD 521 billion in fuel costs in the electricity sector." Hope the free-market capitalists crowd is taking notes.

@dorfman_p Executive Summary Lite: "The economic benefits of solar and wind technologies – in addition to their environmental benefits – are now compelling" - "in 2022, the global weighted average LCOE of new onshore wind projects was 52% lower than the cheapest fossil fuel-fired solutions"

@NucSafetyUCS . When 'West Virginia v. EPA' was handed down, I wondered if it could be useful in challenging bad NRC decisions - but cautioned that it's a dangerous policy that would cut both ways. With our current, untethered Supreme Court, it will probably be used to do more harm than good.

. The article's author faults Judge Ho for not being a nuclear scientist - but obviously he isn't one either And his statement that "nothing in the Nuclear Waste Policy Act repeals the preexisting statutes" (like "provisions governing temporary storage of nuclear waste") is absurd
