By studying their roosting habits and survival, the team aims to guide predator control efforts and explore the bats' potential as natural pest controllers. The project also empowers young iwi members to be kaitiaki of their land. Read more: ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/news/2024/11/b…

The long-tailed bat is facing rapid decline due to predation and habitat loss. In Franklin, EcoQuest is leading work in partnership with Auckland Council, Ngaati Te Ata iwi, and local groups, in a five-year project to track and protect these bats in agricultural landscapes.

🧠 It was intense, and as a table facilitator, I took a whole heap of notes from what was being said, but I felt it was a very valuable engagement exercise. Lots of great discussions, new ideas, and learnings from each other. I look forward to hearing the results submission soon

💡Today was my deliberative democracy session. 🌱 With forty representatives from across Tāmaki Makaurau, they were given presentions from Auckland Council, SPCA New Zealand and The University of Auckland, before being asked questions on how we can protect our environment.
