Getting economic management wrong during the Iran conflict will have long-lasting consequences that are difficult to unwind.
We saw this in the aftermath of Covid where decisions led to debt reaching $120b and inflation hitting a 32 year high. This saw mortgage rates and other prices skyrocket. Kiwis are still grappling with the effects of that today. National wants to ensure those mistakes are avoided.
Responsible economic management matters most when the world is volatile and unpredictable. By fixing the basics in the economy, we have been repairing the post-covid damage done by Labour:
- We’ve reined in wasteful spending saving taxpayers $43b to date in unnecessary expenses
- This has lowered interest rates, meaning Kiwis’ average mortgage repayments are down by as much as $10,000
- We’ve lowered taxes, and,
- Our economy has been growing again, which means exporters and businesses doing well and more job opportunities. Latest data shows 1.1% growth over the last 6 months of 2025 with growth still expected to continue, even with the conflict.
Sticking to National’s careful economic plan is how we can best insulate New Zealand and New Zealanders against this global shock and protect New Zealand’s future.

If you’re feeling concerned about petrol prices, you’re not alone. We know it’s tough, and the last thing any household needs right now is more pressure on the budget.
While these pressures are global, New Zealand is in a stronger position to handle the impact of conflict in the Middle East than we were two years ago, because of the steps we have taken to rebuild the economy.
We will continue to manage the economy responsibly and support Kiwis through this unpredictable time, delivering the steady economic management needed to minimise the impact on households.
English

@NZNationalParty The total tax on New Zealand petrol is over $1.20 per litre, it's extortion
English

The conflict in the Middle East will have an impact on the economy, but NZ is starting from a much stronger position now than was the case a few years ago under Labour - when debt had reached $120b, inflation was at a 32 year high of 7.3%, and skyrocketing mortgage repayments and higher taxes were weighing Kiwis down.

WHEN YOU SPEND TIME WITH A COUPLE SHINING WITH FAITH....AND IT RESCUCITATES YOUR OWN BADLY DENTED FAITH....
Sometimes you meet a man (and a woman) of faith who leave an indelible mark on your own faith journey.
I have just returned from 3 days in Palmerston North, where I was honoured to share the speaking platform with Graham Hood and NZ truth speakers Dr Matt Shelton, Dr Alison Goodwin and lawyer Sue Grey.
The event was one of the most memorable I have spoken at.
A crowded room of at least 350 guests.
Hoodie delivered a keynote that felt divinely inspired to me...
He spoke of FORGIVENESS and the timing felt just perfect with a highly receptive and deeply moved audience.
Graham and his lovely wife Michelle shared their faith journey, the miracles that brought them together and strengthened them for years of work in the sexual abuse space, before Hoodie became known the world over for his stand against Covid vaccine mandates.
I will never forget these three days and the incredible privilege of spending time with such a faith filled couple, working (at huge personal cost) to inspire and heal lives crushed through sexual abuse....and covid vaccine (and mandate) harm.
My deepest appreciation and thanks to both of you, Hoodie and Michelle

This is misdirection from Minister of Immigration Erica Stanford.
Stanford has no intention of deporting any refugee who commits a serious crime in NZ, she is far more concerned with prohibiting women's rights activists entering the country to speak about child safeguarding. Remember, this is the awful woman who campaigned to have @ThePosieParker's entry visa rescinded, lest she offend Stanford's friends in the deviant community.
The Article 1F(b) Stanford references here is the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. New Zealand is a signatory to it and to the 1967 Protocol.
Devious Stanford announces her intention to reinterpret that Article with a big song-and-dance act. Here's the thing: it applies to non-political crimes refugees have committed in other countries before they arrive in NZ:
F. The provisions of this Convention shall not apply to any person with respect to whom there are serious reasons for considering that:
...
(b) he has committed a serious non-political crime outside the country of refuge prior to his admission to that country as a refugee;
But it gets worse. Here's the bit Stanford is hiding, that she's hoping this theatre will distract you from: she already has the power to deport criminal refugees in Article 32 and chooses not to use it:
Article 32 expulsion
1. The Contracting States shall not expel a refugee lawfully in their territory save on grounds of national security or public order.
2. The expulsion of such a refugee shall be only in pursuance of a decision reached in accordance with due process of law. Except where compelling rea-
sons of national security otherwise require, the refugee shall be allowed to submit evidence to clear himself, and to appeal to and be represented for the
purpose before competent authority or a person or persons specially designated by the competent authority.
3. The Contracting States shall allow such a refugee a reasonable period within which to seek legal admission into another country. The Contracting
States reserve the right to apply during that period such internal measures as they may deem necessary.
...reinforced by the exception to refoulement in Article 33:
Article 33 prohibition of expulsion or return (“refoulement”)
1. No Contracting State shall expel or return (“refouler”) a refugee in any manner whatsoever to the frontiers of territories where his life or freedom would be threatened on account of his race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
2. The benefit of the present provision may not, however, be claimed by a refugee whom there are reasonable grounds for regarding as a danger to
the security of the country in which he is, or who, having been convicted by a final judgment of a particularly serious crime, constitutes a danger to the
community of that country.
Just another National party globalist dedicated to flooding New Zealand with the dregs of the third world and, once they've arrived, ensuring they remain.

The government is introducing a bill to tighten our asylum laws. It makes it easier to deport people who have committed serious crimes and exclude criminal asylum seekers from entering the country. Baby steps, but positive. Read more - beehive.govt.nz/release/immigr…
