The detention centres have been around for 30 years, I was on the Border of Visitors of Campsfield in 1997, there is also one at Heathrow (Harmondsworth?). So this not a new idea and they were around during the LibCon coalition. These are secure centres not luxury hotels!

They did not vote to rejoin it through the back door by signing up to EU loan programmes, EU defence funds, or any other mechanism designed to drag this country back into the orbit of Brussels. You speak of standing with Ukraine “for as long as it takes.” The question, of course, is how long British taxpayers are expected to fund a corrupt foreign war while their own country is left to rot. The same ministers who lecture us about “European unity” seem remarkably untroubled by the unity of British people who would quite like their own borders secured and their own streets made safe before they are asked to bankroll another foreign adventure. There’s a remarkable play to be written about a man who rises to the highest political office by denouncing the most trivial lies of his rival about who ate what cake at a party of six people or however many it was, only to succumb to a far graver mendacity about his own political decision-making involving the highest diplomatic role in the land and associations with a convicted sex-offender. It would be Shakespearean if the characters involved weren’t so insubstantial.
