@peter_tulip @Mark_Graph Peter, your argument on immigration is confused. "pecuniary externalities" but then say people should debate the other issue they have with immigration elsewhere. Pareto is irrelevant. When it comes to the housing ?, at the margin would decreasing immigration decrease demand?

.@Mark_Graph has a good blog post on immigration vs planning. "If a city consistently can't build enough supermarkets despite decades of population growth, you don't blame the people for eating food. You ask why nobody can get a planning permit." markthegraph.blogspot.com/2026/03/why-ho… 9/9

Q: Is supply or demand to blame for expensive housing? A: Both. It’s the gap that matters. Asking which is more important is like asking which blade of the scissors does the cutting. The important question is what's the best policy to address it. 1/9

@DrCameronMurray Everybody has this backwards and upside down. Pref voting doesn't favour large or small parties. If voter are on a relative normal distribution and cast their preferences as such, the pref. voting favors candidates that are positioned towards the middle.

@peter_tulip @Dittloff4Sense @swrighteconomy Did you read the article Peter? I did. And while what Drew quoted was the entirety of the articles arguments, it was one of the points the author put forward. Why would they author write that if not to try and support their own claims? You are the one misrepresenting the article

@Dittloff4Sense @swrighteconomy Yes, that's a charitable interpretation. The other interpretation is that he is misrepresenting his opponent's views because he can't address the arguments actually being made.

@MarkoMatvikov Come on dude. What percentage of Australia's population does Victoria account for? Hint: it might make the 25% figure make perfect sense and nit sensationalist! I know math be hard for an engineer but jeezus.

Victorians now account for almost a quarter of all Australians receiving JobSeeker payments. And overall, the proportion of people receiving JobSeeker payments for more than 2 years has risen from 35% in 2010 to 53% in 2024.

@angijones still staring down the feral trans activists. If @JohnPesutto couldn’t break her in the last two years, nutters screaming the erudite chant “no one likes you” certainly won’t. 2 years after the @ThePosieParker rally, women came to reclaim the steps of parliament 🙌

@DrCameronMurray It was nice to have the general public realize econ was more than macro, gdp and interest rates. I would take Freak over sitting through another math grads econ phd defense who couldn't explain opportunity cost in an intuitive way to save his life.

@DrCameronMurray As a former (and reformed) economists, i will defend Freakonomics for what it is. PopEcon. I can't think of anything else that has done more to explain the power of an econ framework for analysis of the novel, to the layperson. Even if the analysis is so robust at times.

@ComicDaveSmith You are the human version of Chatgpt. Lots of info and can formulate it into seemingly plausible sentences. But completely lacking ability to prioritize source credibility. Moronic. i had never heard of you before. Douglas Murray performed poorly. But you are a dummy.

I find it funny that you guys do everything but present an actual argument. It’s all framing tactics. Here’s a video of Douglas blatantly strawmanning over and over. Your response: look at Dave talking about the debate, beta! Of course I’m talking about it. It was a huge debate. YOU are talking about it and you have nothing to do with it. You have to be delusional to think my reputation took a hit on this. Even if you think he won the debate on substance (he didn’t) look at the response. Your boy committed reputation suicide.
Eyal Yakoby@EYakoby

It’s so funny that Douglas hasn’t tweeted once about the debate and Dave Smith is working overtime to try and salvage any credibility he has left. Beta behaviour.

@peter_tulip @GrattanInst We have one of the highest construction labour as % of workforce. Housing policy and immigration are separate questions. What an absolute facile statement.

Complaints that pro-housing economists like me or @GrattanInst ignore immigration show a failure to pay attention. But the complaint that my not having a position is a "cop out" is a fair point. Housing policy and immigration policy are separate questions. Whatever ... 1/2
Grond Capital@GrondCapital

@PhilbyB @JosephNWalker @peter_tulip *marginal* housing demand is *mostly* immigration To ignore it, is to be totally irrelevant in the debate To palm it off as "complex with trade offs" is a total cop out

@peter_tulip @GrattanInst How do we build more houses though? You talk like there is a magic wand, "if we just released more land blah blah", we would build more houses. We build more dwellings per capita than any developed nation already, by some margin.

Would you trust the advice of a morbidly obese “professional” at the RCH without medical training? What if this meant putting your child on puberty blockers and cross sex hormones? Please note that this photo was taken after gastric banding surgery and significant weight loss.

You know what would be a good test for sex? Whether you think a cheek swab is "invasive" or not. Because if that's the most invasive medical procedure you'll ever have done, you are 100% male.
