@FareedZakaria I am happy Amb. Crocker reminded Fareed how Hezbollah came into existence. And it's the same way that Hamas too came into existence. And as for the Iranians, they retaliated against Israel not the other around. Israel has always been the aggressor in all these.

Will the death of Yahya Sinwar lead the Gaza war to its end? Ryan Crocker—former US ambassador to Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon—doesn’t think so. On today’s GPS, Crocker suggested Israel is in danger of getting bogged down in long conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah:

@FareedZakaria You can analyze the changing landscape all you want, the truth is that - for better or worse - people are beginning to think and decide for themselves. Not base their decisions on what the media say.

No matter who wins the 2024 election, a new landscape—in which cultural identity takes precedence over economics—will define US politics for decades to come. My take:

On GPS, @ 10am & 1pm ET Sunday on @CNN: • Israel retaliates against Iran. Where will this ongoing tit-for-tat lead the Middle East? I’ll talk w/ @ronenbergman • Will the Gaza war continue despite Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s death? Fmr US Amb. Ryan Crocker says yes • Why has North Korea sent troops to Russia? I’ll talk w/ @junghpak1 • How does Beijing view the US election? I’ll ask @Lingling_Wei • Finally: What’s holding BRICS back?

@Zeedub85 @RafHM @elonmusk Indentured servitude was what was going on b4 the Europns came along w/chattel slavery. And the so called west African apology, was done out of ignorance. History is filled w/ many lies like this. We can also talk about Christopher Columbus "discovering" America if U like.

@Natural94880161 @RafHM @elonmusk Lies? West African nations have even apologized for their role in the slave trade. Pointing this out is not an attempt to justify slavery, but is just saying that the reality was complicated. Europeans were enslaved by Muslims but also by other Europeans. No past is clean.

Not many people these days know that the British Empire was the driving force behind ending the vast majority of global slavery. Slavery or de facto slavery was standard practice throughout the world from the dawn of civilization until a few hundred years ago. It is even discussed at length in the Bible, for example.
ThinkingWest@thinkingwest

The British Empire was, in some ways, a force for good. In many places it occupied it: -raised the standard of living -developed infrastructure -promoted education It also single-handedly ended slavery for much of the world…🧵(thread)

@elonmusk This would have meant something if the British weren't themselves among the biggest perpetrators of slave trade. Praising the British for ending the slave trade is akin to praising a man for taking a child to the hospital after he molested the child.

@RafHM @elonmusk One of the biggest lies ever told, and still being perpetuated, is that Africans sold their own into slavery. History is filled with such whitewashed narratives as justification for some of the most heinous crimes against humanity perpetuated by the usual suspects.

@JonDrucker @rodadodu @FareedZakaria @BHL Israel is the brainchild of Theodore Herzl - the so called father of Zionism. And the core tenet of Zionism is the complete eradication of Arabs from their land, and ultimately the complete ownership of Palestine by the Jews. So please spare me your fake feelings for the Plstns.

Uh, Jews are from JUdea. Arabs are from ARABIA. Easy to see who’s the imperial colonizer and who’s the indigenous nation. The fact that you ignore or are ignorant of the Jews’ unique reclaiming of their ancient Homeland after millennia of exile following an ethnic cleansing, does not diminish its significance. Jews indigenousness there, however, does not diminish the rights of the people there either. That is why compromise and a PEACEFUL solution is so desperately needed.

@JonDrucker @rodadodu @FareedZakaria @BHL From America to South Africa. From Australia to Palestine, every colonizer has the tendency to place a false claim of ownership on the land that they have violently stolen from indigenous people of those lands. And Israel is no different.

@FareedZakaria @BHL Your conversation with THCoates this week was beneath you. His predictably woke work—based on one week in the West Bank—is worthless and has been effectively trashed by serious critics. Please be more judicious in the future.

@EuropeInvasionn I grew up believing that "all for one, and one for all," where if you mess with one of them, they all will come for you, was an unspoken Arab rule. But seeing how they are all silent while the Palestinians are being massacred by Israel..., man, was I wrong.

@FareedZakaria @antonioguterres The UN is a complete joke. In all of its 79 years of existence it has yet to bring a single conflict to a successful end. And the UN peace keeping troops rape women and father many illegitimate children in all the underdeveloped countries that they operate in.

WHY AFRICANS STILL NEED TO ‘GO EXTERNAL’ Go ‘external’ - that’s what African nations do every time they need anything. So alleges Zimbabwean pan-African activist Brian Kagoro in this snippet from a speech he gave at a recent security symposium in Rwanda. Be it defence, finance, development - we’re dependent on our former colonisers for help. And that’s no accident. He says they left us with weak institutions that made us dependent on them - intellectually, economically and in terms of security. The old ‘divide-and-rule’ keeps striking again and again. Is he being too harsh? And if not - what’s the answer? Video credit: @Kigali Today
