I love the education board in my ICU! Learn & vote is a great mechanism.

I got tired of flipping through a dozen PDFs to find the ECMO pressure/flow curve I needed. So I made an app! Choose a cannula/size & see the flow for a given pressure drop or compare multiple cannula at once. Lmk what y’all think. More cannula? onepagericu.com/ecmo-calculator

Hemodynamics and Right Heart Cath tweetorials collection. All in one place! Threads: 1. PA Catheter (PAC 101). The basics 2. Waveform recognition (PAC in ICU) 3. Quality control: 🔑troubleshooting before you use the data 4. Preventing the most dreadful PAC complication

I ❤️ the Fick Equation but it’s got limitations as summarized by this article. 1️⃣ estimating VO2 & VCO2 using reference formula is often wrong in people with critical illness 2️⃣ substituting ScvO2 for SvO2 is invalid due to incomplete mixing in the LA. Nice Amazon river analogy

ICU Stories: While walking around the ICU at the beginning of your night shift, you notice that the respiratory therapist increased the FiO2 from 90 to 100% in a mechanically ventilated patient. Bedside monitor shows O2 sat 90%. You decide to read a bit more about the patient:

I was asked to give the keynote for the @iuobgyn residency last night I was initially struck with impostor syndrome, but got this message from a good friend in the department and felt better about it Thought I'd 🧵 "six things I wish I knew when I finished training" 1/

The decision as to whether we should provide bicarb to our critically ill patient takes places every single day. This paper breaks things down amazingly well. 🎩 tip to the authors. eddyjoemd.com/foamed/

1/11 Rapid Response Series, #2: Hypotension So in medical school we were all shown a table like this to learn shock, which made my eyes roll back. 🙄 When I’m called about hypotension, I don’t have time to recall a table.⏱️ #MedTwitter #TipsForNewDocs
