@nut_history I was born in the mid 1960s. Canadiens since the early 1970s. Blue Jays lukewarmly since 2005, after the Expos moved to Washington. Alouettes since the early 1970s. I also rooted for the Concordes, and then for the Tiger-Cats when there was no Montreal team.

@overjoyed_joy @cbctom In 1980, NBC showed an NFL game, Jets vs Dolphins, without announcers. It was actually pretty awful.

@cbctom Let them get rid of the announcers, fgs, because it’s TV and not radio, and most of us have eyes. And very large televisions. I cannot stand the constant blathering on and on. I’d rather hear the game sounds, the ice, the crowd, the HITS!

How does RDS lose a half million dollars a game on the Montreal Canadiens?
Elias Makos@eliasmakos

Developing language story in Quebec. French broadcasting rights for the Montreal Canadiens next season have yet to be determined. In English, situation is set. You subscribe to TSN and Sportnet, you can watch all the games. In French, it’s much more complex. Sources tell @JeremyFilosa that RDS already loses $500,000 per game they broadcast, and they cannot take on the share of games they’ve had in the past. TVA Sports is also bleeding money, and they cannot pick up the slack. They may even need to get out of broadcasting games completely. That leaves streaming to fill the gap. But if the Canadiens go that route, it would put the team in a situation where English fans have it much better than French fans, both in cost and complexity. The Habs are aware this would be a terrible look. And a bigger long term question is how will Canadian broadcasters keep up with escalating rights fees as the country’s economy continues to stagnate. This is the canary in the coal mine.

@checkout4me @AlternativeBob @eliasmakos I'm a Habs fan who grew up in Calgary. Once the Flames moved to town, we got their games every Saturday night. But I was always able to watch the Habs on the Radio-Canada station from Edmonton.

@Cernovich The way it's going, Kamala Harris could run for President in 2028 with the slogan, "Told you so."

If Kamala Harris were in office, we wouldn't be at war in Iran but the border would be open, Elon would be in jail, X wouldn't exist, and there'd be a bipartisan amnesty. I have a lot of issues with the current administration. Everyone who is HONEST does. Real life isn't utopia.

Everything about official bilingualism in Canada is built on myth. People can’t “just learn” a language they don’t need. Canada isn’t “built on” two equally-sized language groups. Bilingualism isn’t “necessary” to function at an elite level. It’s all just Laurentian folklore.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that we have 25-year-old “students” who graduated 3 years ago still playing college football. My bill is simple: you get 5 consecutive years to play 5 seasons. After that, you’re done. No more of this “COVID free year of eligibility” crap.

Exclusive: @CoachForGov introduces ‘Student Athlete Act Of 2026’ aimed at curtailing transfer portal chaos. It give athletes five years to play five seasons, while also penalizing a player 1 year for transferring a second time, he tells @OutKickHotMic outkick.com/sports/tommy-t…

Well, I'm just going to drop this here and make a lot of people mad. Since even before October 7, 2023, I voiced my concern that TPUSA was platforming and also employing people who were neither conservatives nor good people. After October 7, 2023, it became more obvious as several of those regularly featured at TPUSA events or on staff were clearly antisemites. It went beyond grift to outright antisemitism. Now, some of those same people have turned on the organization and would aid a transgender adjacent murderer to advance their own insane conspiracy theories and agendas. They were platformed and normalized by the organization they now attack. Discernment years ago could have prevented what is now happening.
