I know a tradition that is common in Igbo land. If a man dies, his children cannot bury him with a live cow. The cow has to be slaughtered at the abattoir, then brought to the community. Except the dead man buried his own father with a live cow and beyond. Infact, if the dead man has a dead elder brother, and the dead elder brother's children didn't bury their late father with a live cow, his children would have to either do that of their late uncle first, or they don't do it at all. Also, if you go for burials, you may wish not to eat certain meat, if you have not done same ritual rites for your own father. It's believed that, eating such ritual meat can either kill you, or bring bad omen. I would love Igbos to confirm or debunk this tradition. Do you believe in it or not?
