@BroadStHockey Better question: Should Flyers have picked John Carlson in 2008 instead of trading that pick to the Caps for Steve Eminger?

@Lowetide @TheAthleticNHL This is the recipe for making sure McDavid requests a trade in the next 12 weeks. I used to think it was just silly Toronto based media gibberish but Allen has perfectly articulated the plan. Shedding ~$20M for nothing is the new SCF apparently.

@Menzies_4 @coopsie39 True but they could have a deal ready to go that gives Cassidy the confidence he needs to resign his position with VGK. I don’t think he needs permission if he quits his job and forfeits the remaining compensation. If VGK isn’t paying him he can do whatever he wants .

@NeilGarritty @coopsie39 Bowman & Cassidy aren't strangers. I think it's possible they've talked hush hush or people have talked to people have talked to... but you need to "talk" officially. To hire, you need permission which is the crux of the issue

@Autokev Calm down. They are interviewing an available candidate for the position. They aren’t hiring him. Do you think the team should hire someone without talking to all of the candidates? Should they ignore Bérubé because he’s from Calahoo?

It’s just a horrific decision but the #1 thing that’s most important to this organization… Bérubé grew up in the Edmonton area. That’s what is #1 to them. That’s also why they are going after Cossa this summer.

32 Thoughts Monday morning playoff preview, news & interview pod. Not reported in it, but heard this morning: Oilers have permission to talk to Craig Berube. Today's guest is Henrik Sedin. Great answers to terrible questions. Links to your preferred platform, here: sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-th… Happy Victoria Day. Have a great week.

@Menzies_4 @coopsie39 I’m assuming that Cassidy isn’t locked up in a VGK safe house right now so what is stopping him from talking to teams on the down low? Can’t prove anything so just deny and take it to his grave.

@Menzies_4 That gave me chills and I wasn’t cheering for either team.

@DaveAMcCarthy Love Bruce but those are the terms of the contract he signed. If he didn’t like the terms, he was free not to sign it.

@DaveAMcCarthy All of this because the least penalized team in the past 4 years are upset about a player getting a 1 game suspension. Pietrangelo got one game for attempting an on-ice amputation of Draisaitl’s arm and the league invented a rule to make the suspensions “fair.”

@Menzies_4 @coopsie39 It is Vegas we’re talking about so it could be an upgraded 1st round pick they are granted for the emotional distress they have suffered through these trying times.

@Menzies_4 @coopsie39 There is nothing stopping Cassidy from resigning his position and signing a new contract with the Oilers. He can’t get paid by both teams but he’s not the property of VGK when he resigns. This isn’t an NHL thing, it’s a labour law thing.

I'm not saying he's the be all end all here. But in lieu of insiders providing real talk here, I found it interesting. Eventually, one day, down the line, sure I can believe Cassidy will become available. But my point is that there's been a general assumption that VGK will grant permission. But what if they don't, and it becomes a protracted multi-month process? Can EDM wait that long? I genuinely don't know

@dstaples It’s amazing how a player’s perceived value skyrockets when they get traded by the Oilers. Fans trash the players when they’re on the team and love them when they play for another team.

Thrilling game tonight. Oilers fans, what you think of Ryan McLeod? Who would you rather have?

@Menzies_4 @coopsie39 You lost me at Saravelli. Cassidy can resign his position and forfeit the remaining portion of his contract to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Vegas doesn’t own Cassidy because that’s not legal anymore. Employees are allowed to quit their jobs and work other places.

See, I'm just not no sure. Seravalli today: “The league is not going to overrule the Golden Knights here. Contract law and contract language is that,” said Seravalli. “They, I believe, have a clear stance in the League office that if Vegas wants to go to the mat here and not grant permission for Bruce Cassidy to speak to a division rival, then that is their right to do so, so long as they continue to pay the four and a half million dollars that are owed to Bruce Cassidy for next year. “If that's the cheque they want to write to not have Bruce Cassidy, they believe, make the Oilers better next year, the league, there's not much they can do, even if it defies custom and norms.”

@KGYEG @PierreVLeBrun he Could resign, and Vegas would then be able to stop paying him and would not be able to reinstate him, but he would not be able to work for another team until his contract expires or the team allows him to, so what would be the point of resigning?

@easternrefugee @TheMugNHL To add to that, Nurse’s production after the contract is the same as it was before the contract. The idea that he will never live up to his contract is absurd. They didn’t pay him to lead the league in points. Different players get paid for different things.

@NeilGarritty @TheMugNHL BINGO-BANGO-BONGO Let’s get something straight with FACTS 1. Nurse accepted 2 bridge contracts for a total of 4 years to help this team with a flat cap. 2. In short Nurse was UNDER PAID FIR 4 years. Funny how NO ONE talks about that 3. At some point he HAD to be paid.

According to David Pagnotta, the San Jose Sharks are a potential fit for Edmonton Oilers’ Darnell Nurse.

@easternrefugee @OilersNation @TheFourthPeriod Here’s what I think actually happened that Pagnotta reported on: the Oilers were floating around trading one of their LDs with a big contract and a NMC for Reilly. Pagnotta assumed it was Nurse because he believes Walman is good for some reason. Tada!

@NeilGarritty @OilersNation @TheFourthPeriod Help of Chaulk. Nurse needs the same exact treatment. Hopefully Murphy is that player. I am SICK of the trash talk about long term players that are the heart/core of this team. Bowman is not great at FA but he is awesome at finding kids in college/europe.

@NeilGarritty @OilersNation @TheFourthPeriod I agree. I am sick of all of these media types trashing players who then incite fans into mob mentality of doing the same. Nurse is zero different than either 29/97. All 3 need reall partners. 97 got Savoie and 29 got Potz both thanks to Bowman and the development
