At this rate we might as well go back to 1986 and overturn Maradona's Hand of God against England.

🇨🇲 Samuel Eto'o on CAF giving Morocco the AFCON: "They have given the world a reason to never take AFCON. Seriously, how will you lose a final and win it two months later?" "The whole world knows the real winners. Senegal have proof that they won the AFCON."

Liverpool’s failure to move earlier and more decisively for Marc Guehi last summer, giving Palace more time to find a replacement, has cost them dear. Fans warned that as the season began. Guehi would have brought more composure and security, and competition for Ibrahima Konate in particular, and also for Virgil van Dijk (and Guehi better on the left). Liverpool’s loss of authority at the back is clearly a huge problem. Conceded 41 goals last season. 39 already this season with nine games to go. Have just conceded four goals to teams in relegation positions, Wolves (2-1 loss) and West Ham (5-2 win). Look at the calm Guehi has brought to Manchester City's defence. Giovanni Leoni’s injury was particularly badly-timed for him and LFC but he’s inexperienced, only 19 (only 14 Serie A appearances with Parma). Jeremy Jacquet, 20, currently awaiting shoulder surgery, arrives in summer. Liverpool have succession planning at centre-back, but Guehi was a bad miss. Other issues behind Liverpool’s travails: lack of pace out wide, right-back churn, Frimpong’s injuries, Isak injuries, Salah uncertainty, players settling in, opposition improvements, poor concentration leading to conceding late goals (and questions of stamina and Slot’s changes?). Slot’s persistence with certain players. Inexperienced but exciting and swift Rio Ngumoha versus experienced but slightly predictable Cody Gakpo? Ngumoha still only 17 but surely worth his first PL start at some point. A statement of intent. Liverpool are too open, too prone to individual errors, too many good players off the pace. They have to finish in the Champions League positions otherwise Slot’s own position deserves to come under scrutiny. Money talks and the Champions League talks loudest for FSG especially after last summer’s investments. Slot surely still has some credit in the bank following last season’s unexpected Premier League triumph. He deserves some patience and understanding – and Liverpool’s match-going support will doubtless give him that. Slot deserves backing until the end of the season and then any decision can be made. #LFC
