@Dr_M_Davis It does make you wonder all this talk last year about making a peace deal was due to US planning operations in Iran? Pentagon probably didn't want to deal with 2 conflicts at the same time, let alone a 3rd one against cartels.

The US is throwing #Ukraine under the bus.

@John_Hempton 2nd time, everyone forgot about Red Sea mission last year.
Interesting times, IMHO we are living in might is right world order now. With authoritarians currently calling the shots now.

An obvious comment on US Foreign Policy:
US foreign policy is self-defeating.
a. spend a year beating up on allies, threatening to take land (Greenland) from a NATO ally
b. wage a trade war against your allies. Sure the tariffs were illegal - but the beggar-thy-neighbour policy did not engender friends
c. start a war of choice in the Middle East. This may or may not have been justified (I lean towards justified) and it may or may not have been wise and winnable (I really do not have an opinion)
d. ask your allies for help and
e. get upset when they do not oblige - whilst forgetting about a and b above.
The geopolitical realignment is astonishing. All my life Australia has had one foreign policy - which is to internationalise the corpses in all American wars. If America asks us to go to war we go. And we go fast.
This time the Australian Government (to general approval) has refused to send a ship to the Gulf. (They have not been formally asked - but they made clear a rejection was coming.)
After a) and b) above aligning yourself with America is becoming political poison in a democracy.
I think this is VERY bad. The world has been well served by the American alliances that won the cold war and mostly kept a functional global order. Those alliances have been sacrificed to Trump's egotistical whims. The world is a less safe place now.
And it is less safe not just for America's (former?) allies but also for America.

@gongcitizn @AvidCommentator Yep, that what I reckon as well wait until after election. See how many people will blindly follow ALP regardless of their actions.
English

@AvidCommentator Cabinet hinted today of "other measures in the coming days." Including I'm sure getting the SA election out of the way and then going full Fascist next week.
English

@009Kat @Leo_Puglisi6 Same here, there is no dispute that ALP will win, I do feel confident that we won't get a result straight away. I feel like ON has taken over ALP role as a bluecollar party. As ALP now party for intellectual millionaires.
English

@Nelson_85744 @Leo_Puglisi6 I'm sure Labor will win but the feedback from pre-poll is amazing. I'm having Labor, Liberal and Greens say they are voting ON!
English

Excited to see how wrong I'll be
(FWIW I think One Nation finishes ahead of the Liberals statewide with around 19%)

Labor landslide, Liberals losing seats...but will One Nation win anything in the lower house? Here's our predictions for Saturday's South Australian state election – but what are yours? Let us know ⬇️ WATCH MORE: youtube.com/watch?v=-4j3oa…

@JacobShap 💯, however, I do wonder what the Taiwanese government is thinking about the whole Iran situation. With so many American allies not willing to help reopen the Strait, are we (Taiwanese) confident that US & her allies will come in our hour of need?
English

@AvidCommentator So let me understand this last 4 years. we had Ukraine destroying Russian oil infrastructure. Now we have Middle East oil infrastructure getting hit & Venezuela oil refineries are going to take years to get back online. Yet there isn't a supply issue...
English

@009Kat @Leo_Puglisi6 Agreed, I think ON will be wild card. Everyone in media & ALP camp is acting like ALP will win straight away. I'm seeing a lot of traditional Labor voters have swing to ON.
English

@Leo_Puglisi6 Have been on the ground on pre-poll for 3 days, ON have been very popular when handing out htv cards.
English

@TMFScottP ALP is corporate Australia best friend. Why companies use their own money to invest into their business when you can get taxpayer to cover it? Or get taxpayer to bail you out for making poor decisions?

English

@AntonyGreenElec Thanks, will be following you throughout the night.
My forecast for Saturday, ALP victory (no surprise there) however I don't believe it be wipeout or be call so early. Vibe I been getting is that ON will be getting a lot of 1st preference votes, which will delay outcome

@Dr_M_Davis Russell Crowe's Nuremberg film is a must watch for every world leader or foreign affairs minister. It important that we define the government as enemy not the people of that state.
English

@Dr_M_Davis If you were average Russian and you see US senator Lindsay Graham calling for killing all Russians. Of course you would think that is now the Western world's goal that this is a war of survival of state & it people.
English

Straight out of #Putin's playbook - he's preparing for the next war after #Ukraine - against #NATO.
Get Ready Europe.
Euromaidan Press@EuromaidanPress
The "Narva People's Republic" now has a flag, a coat of arms, and a Telegram network. Ukraine saw this playbook in 2014 – now it's appearing in a NATO member state. The same "People's Republic" branding that preceded Russia's Donbas occupation is targeting Estonia's border region. euromaidanpress.com/2026/03/17/nar…

@AvidCommentator 💯 agreed. Scomo was the one that wanted to increase our strategic oil reserves.
He was also 💯 right about the post covid world. Scomo made it clear that pre covid world isn't coming back.
English

@DaveTaylorNews I would agree, however I do fear that any talk of recession or job losses is political toxic. Thus strong likelihood of bailouts or stimulus regardless whom in power. Know so many millennials that expecting gov to pay off debt or get "Rudd 07" stimulus cheque aka get new TV.
English

@AvidCommentator That another odd thing, US was taking Venezuelan oil tankers on lead up to Manduro arrest, in order to stop Venezuelan revenue. Yet Iran is getting free pass? Does make you wonder if Chinese said something to make sure oil keep flowing.
English

@JesseCohenInv How long until POTUS made some statement that strait will open "soon" which will bring oil back down again?
English
Andrew retweetledi

@BrandonMyers10 @DaveTaylorNews Market is totally wild, even if Iran took out all Middle East oil facilities, somehow it would drop price of oil.
English

@DaveTaylorNews I feel like it's going to go $50 or $200 at this point. Erratic. 🫠

@AvidCommentator 💯 love this speech. This is best way forward, encouraging people to volunteer to reduce fuel usage during this crisis. Our nation has strong history of working together without government enforcing policies
English

The speech I would write for Albo for tomorrow evening:
"My fellow Australians,
I come before you tonight amidst challenging times for Australia and the world.
With traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowing to a trickle compared with its normal flows, nations around the globe, including Australia face an uncertain future for our energy supplies should the crisis continue.
For this reason, I am calling for an emergency meeting of National Cabinet for Wednesday to discuss the issue with state and territory leaders, as well as with experts from relevant industries.
As part of our meeting we will prepare a series of plans to secure Australia's immediate energy future, by moving to conserve the fuel supplies we have and ensure that we have adequate supplies for as long as possible.
From this moment on, my government is making the recommendation that all Australians consider taking public transport instead of driving should that be appropriate for their journey.
I am also calling on employers from across the nation to consider allowing employees to work from home until the current crisis passes.
Australians are a deeply resilient people, we have shown that during the pandemic, the Depression and during two world wars.
When we are collectively called to work together to overcome adversity, we have done so on every occasion in our history and I am certain we will again.
As volatility in the energy supply market continues, my government will be making it clear that while we will attempt to keep our existing energy export commitments, that comes with an obligation to those whose economy's are powered with Australian energy products.
If we supply you with the liquefied natural gas, thermal coal and coking coal to feed your economy's, then we expect that you continue to provide us with the refined fuels such as petrol, diesel and jet fuel that we receive from you.
If you dont keep your commitments with us, then Australia will respond in kind.
My government will secure Australians energy future, no ifs or buts, we will do whatever is necessary to keep Australia moving.
In this the help of each and every Australian is vital, and I know we will collectively rise to the occasion, as we always have as a proud and united Australian people.
Thank you."
