@TurleyDurden01 @Kurt_Steiner No their calculations regarding the Soviet Union was not only wrong but also borderline negligent. Once their initial plan failed, they had no backup. The logistical plans were also woeful. They had no logistical plans for an advance as long as what was necessary in the USSR.

@Kurt_Steiner This makes little sense, what they failed to consider was the importance of the United States and some scientific advancements in the UK they were not aware of, otherwise their calculations would have been pretty accurate, leaving aside bad strategic and tactical considerations.

The more I read about the German war effort 1941 onwards, the more I’m struck by how they failed to comprehend the nature of the war they were fighting until it was much too late.

@spamalotcamelot @theiaincameron Easy to say if your language isn’t on the receiving end. Language-based identity loss (basically language loss trauma) is a real thing. These languages are still alive so instead of just recording them, why not find ways for people to reconnect to them?

It's insane there weren't more British H1Bs or J1s. And I just found out the UK is excluded from the green card lottery? Difficulty to understand how immigration policy could have been designed worse.

@JakesScarfStash @TheGhostSleepi1 No I was just gently mocking the implication you were making. Because that’s what a public right of way is, it’s access to (and through) private (often enclosed) land.

@PonsukeTheSilly @verrsane My point is you can’t just discount London as unrepresentative because it’s more representative (in terms of no. people who live there) than any home nation but England. And yes there are always areas of countries that are more productive, and areas that are less.

@Nemo01FTW @verrsane London is 22% of Britain's GDP but only makes up 13% of the population. Some jobs will actually pay you more if you live in London because the cost of living is so much higher there. London's median is probably equal to the median elsewhere in terms of purchasing power.

@JakesScarfStash @TheGhostSleepi1 In England we walk over other people’s land, enclosed or otherwise, as long as it’s got a public right of way. You should try it. You don’t even need decorum, you just need to be follow a right of way. You should try it.

@charonsuber @TheGhostSleepi1 There are no circumstances in which this is allowed, and the landowner could even face a custodial sentence. I’ve never encountered this happening. From my walk on Monday:

@TheGhostSleepi1 The concern with this is that many landowners restrict or even barricade footpaths already. So it's often shaky for footpaths let alone free roaming.

@PonsukeTheSilly @verrsane To an extent but London does also have a disproportionate amount of the population of the UK. There are more Londoners than there are Scots and Welshman (and by some measures Northern Irishmen) combined. So it doesn’t really make sense to remove it.

@Nemo01FTW @verrsane Sure, but that's missing the point I'm making. London is an outlier and a massive portion of the economy that inflates the stats of the whole country. Even in other cities, like Cardiff, the median yearly income is only about $42k.

@PonsukeTheSilly @verrsane Of course if you’re going to exclude the productive areas, it goes down. The same is true of any country including America.

@kroketrendang But it’s not too late to create something new. For example, core CANZUK with high level of integration and something akin to imperial preference for the rest of the Commonwealth Realms. Commonwealth republics could get some preferential treatment.

@xeode @YorkshireJW @barbourtwat There are no exceptions to an established public right of way. The exception is putting a gate on it, (they have to ask to do that) but the public must be able to open this gate.

@YorkshireJW @Nemo01FTW @barbourtwat they're not breaking the law most of the time they just have the resources to blag the underfunded state for exceptions/litigation we've had the right to roam since time immemorial, the era of enclosure is the law change to the established rights/norms not the other way round

@xeode @barbourtwat Never happened to me before and I go on a few walks a week. It’s not lawful to do so for any reason, they can’t stop you going on right of ways. But if it does happen to you, surely the solution is to make sure the existing law is enforced, not make another law to be ignored.

@xeode @barbourtwat There are no circumstances under which a landowner can unilaterally close a public right of way. And there is basically no circumstances under which a local authority can do so.

@barbourtwat landowners are constantly trying to close footpaths and claiming wild exceptional circumstances though. a right to roam fixes that so if they don't allow for proper routes that people can and will make their own

@juasanalghaib Kosovo literally doesn’t run their country. Pseudointellectuals don’t say they can’t run their own country because Kosovo already doesn’t entirely run their own country. The EU (via EULEX Kosovo), the UN (via UNMIK), and NATO (via KFOR) play a role in governing Kosovo.

Kosovo gained independence with less resources, less finances and less people and I don't see any of these pseudointellectual politics freaks claiming that they're too stupid or poor to run their own country
Mac 🌹@mactellomckeown

I like Scotland, I don't want them to be forced into an austerity programme that would come as a result from losing British government funding, and none of their parties seem like they'd be very good at governing an independent country

@AccLion0148 @generalquixote @palebloodstasi 1.) We must face our imperial past both as perpetrator & victim 2.) DS was for trade 3.) England actively sabotaged DS with embargo & did everything it could to force union with gunships in Edinburgh & bribery. Scots rioted for decades 4.) Germany should cease to exist generally

@shanjipie @NationalReilly @angloaleks I think it’s also fair to claim Hayek (or half claim him) as well. Although he wasn’t born here, it was his time here (by his own admission) that shaped his political and economic views. He also considered himself British.

@JamieStoddart @murrayJamescoo1 @Dr_W_E_Bulmer The CoR of 1689, superseded and was in part a response to the Prerogative Act of 1661. The King was seen to Act beyond his powers which is why the CoR of 1689 was enacted. After this point the Act of 1661 ceased to be in force.

In any British colony in the three decades after WW2, a 73 to 56 majority in the legislature in favour of independence (even without a majority of votes), would have been enough to trigger a conference at Lancaster House to negotiate the constitution of a newly independent state.
