@wandynamics @bitsinflight We’re considering this as a viable alternative. Consistent OS across our Datacentres, metro, buildings, and branches would be invaluable.

If you have any Cisco ASR or ISR routers that are going EoL or EoS this year, might we suggest an alternative? WAN Dynamics works with Arista for WAN Routing System bit.ly/3Av15aW

@danieldibswe That’s how we build our data center switch configurations - no CLI touch at all for any operations now. We will be doing the same in our branches starting this year, early next. All variables come from systems of record.

If I can find some time going forward I would like to code something in #Python to generate CSV files for Cisco #SDWAN where all variables are populated. Pull IPs from some type of database.

Sometimes huge news are hidden away in the release notes. As of IOS-XE 17.11, Catalyst 9300 supports SGTs with VXLAN/EVPN. Why is this important? Previously the only fabric supporting SGTs was SDA with LISP. Interesting to see what this means for DNAC cisco.com/c/en/us/td/doc…

@dscheinm Or creatively rewrite history to suit their narrative: “the company never sold anything til I was here” “I launched the company in 20XX” or changes the name of the company or something to allow for that story to take root.

As always, @ioshints has a balanced opinion on ChatGPT. It can do some cool things, assuming that there is data that it can read, but it does not in any way or form replace a human in IT. Only a small part of the job is configuring things. blog.ipspace.net/2023/03/chatgp…

@Kangaruess What an abomination. I remember when the CatOS team was explaining this in the mid 90s and we were incredulous. Was literally a ticking time bomb.

@Bahlkris We had several like that as well. GIS then started making us upgrade software because of known vulnerabilities. We were upgrading Cisco kit every other weekend…. Could never get compliant

@rugsharkd @sama But you can mandate that all banks not compliant with Dodd Frank post it on the front page of their website, and at each branch. Then hold the execs responsible.

ugh fine here is my SVB thread: TL;DR: at this point, to be certain of avoiding catastrophe, the FDIC needs to temporarily guarantee all deposits. other solutions might work, but this is the best one.

@danieldibswe We use @AristaNetworks in our low latency trade plant. Most exchanges and everyone else in there seems to as well. There are good reasons.

@danieldibswe We banned stacks - much easier and obvious failure characteristics. Fibre plant was a sunk cost but we pulled 48pair from each IDF to each of the MDFs

When deploying a switch stack, do you consider where you put your uplinks? I recall some documents saying to avoid active switch and standby switch, if possible. The logic being that if the active switch fails, you don't lose any uplinks. Is active most likely to fail?

@rugsharkd @sama Done right the bank pays for insurance. If the FDIC does a bailout for this type of circumstance the Officers of the bank should be liquidated, bonuses clawed back from execs, and the directors and officers criminally charged. The bonus and equity clawback pays off the FDIC.

@sama And where should FDIC get the money to cover the deposits? Should the ensure every banks total deposits? What return does the tax payer get by providing this insurance for free?

@sama Sam, there used to be intense audits. SVB lobbied to have that threshold raised so they were effectively@less regulated. Protect the depositors, 100% yes. Fire the employees, jail the officers, and claw back 75% of all bonus and equity comp from all VP and up.

also, i was once on the board of a bank holding company. the fault here lies with the management of SVB, but there were intense and frequent audits by regulators to prevent exactly this from happening.

@GRDecter Really depends if they have a 10b51 or not. Most execs have predetermined selling plans on vesting or at specific price targets.
