The majority of that money never gets to the homeless. It goes to non-profits who then pay salaries and "operational costs." In some NGOs as little as .17 cents for every dollar goes to services. I will say that @salvationarmysf, .85 cents per dollar goes to programs.

We have very different ideas on how to do that, but I think that’s the sign of a healthy democracy: the ability to disagree civilly, debate thoughtfully, and grapple with the fact that what we’ve been doing isn’t working — even, and perhaps most importantly, when you come from the same political party. I love New York, but I’m happy to be on a flight home right now — because California, we have a whole lot of work to do.

Look at this misdirection: @sfbart saying they voted to “oppose” fare evasion while de facto letting it happen for a decade. This is like eating ice cream on the couch while saying “going to the gym is good for you”

Since some are doubling down saying there was never a vote by the BART Board opposing fare evasion. Here are the receipts: In 2017 all nine board members voted to oppose fare evasion and create a new proof of payment ordinance. AYES - 9: Directors Allen, Blalock, Dufty, Josefowitz, Keller, McPartland, Raburn, Simon, and Saltzman. NOES – 0. ABSENT-0. ABSTAIN-0. Then in 2023 the majority of the board voted to oppose a bill that would decriminalize fare evasion. Two votes.
