"the trans issue...Most people think Democrats have completely lost their minds on this matter. Until they come back to earth on simple, objective, biological reality, Democrats aren’t going to get anywhere with the middle of the country." wsj.com/opinion/free-e…

@pickover Good article. Def a subject worth exploring. Could also include the traditions in Islam regarding Alexander the Great and submarines.

This article caught my eye today. "The ISLAMIC Roots Of Science Fiction." "You probably already knew that Islam was having a scientific golden age during Europe’s middle ages, and making tons of scientific and medical discoveries. (Which is why we use words like 'algebra.') But you might not know that some of the earliest proto-science fiction came from the Islamic world." Article continues here: gizmodo.com/the-islamic-ro…

@bernardtjoy Yes. Since the falling of Rome, the main political propagators of Christianity were recent(ish) pagan converts, from Alaric (though Arian) to the fully Catholic Clovis. It is absurd to think paganism did not significantly influence the faith.

Those now arguing about whether The Lord of the Rings is a fundamentally Christian or pagan allegory are perhaps forgetting that the Christian tradition in Europe has been impregnated by the pagan since the very beginning, as far back as any poetry that ever captured it.

Spend one year reading, watching, and studying Shakespeare. It’s your cultural inheritance. We need you to know Shakespeare so you can pass it down to the next generation.

Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)
This LOTR sequel sounds atrocious but Stephen Colbert speaks Elvish and getting him to write it is one notch below getting a credentialed Tolkien scholar to do it.

@doofgeek4011 Just playing devils advocate, but I could an apologist arguing that while animals may feel pain during childbirth, they don’t SUFFER, as suffering is something of which only humans are capable

@OrthodoxOrigen Bryan Johnson’s project is another example of this: clearly an evolution of his past LDS theology and its idea of ‘exaltation’.

@JustinBerkobien Original Christians would often refuse to even baptize soldiers. The faith was morphed to a more war friendly state through its fusion with Rome and the influence of formerly pagan Germanic peoples

Jesus emphatically refused to support his movement by way of violence or military force. Any war waged in his name is inherently blasphemous.
