Followers of John the Baptist continued to proclaim John as Messiah into at least the early 4th century.
Dositheans continued to proclaim their guy as Messiah & that he “is alive somewhere” into at least the 3rd century.

Christianity should have failed. History is full of dead leaders whose ideas died with them. A movement survives when there is a reason for it to continue. The disciples had every reason to hide and no reason to keep going after the crucifixion. Something specific changed their minds and gave them the confidence to face execution themselves. @bernardtjoy Yes. Since the falling of Rome, the main political propagators of Christianity were recent(ish) pagan converts, from Alaric (though Arian) to the fully Catholic Clovis. It is absurd to think paganism did not significantly influence the faith.

Animals feel pain in childbirth because it is a natural biological process, not due to participation in the Fall. Genesis 3:16 serves as an etiological explanation linking the hardship and pain of human reproduction to the broken human condition in relation to God.

I just listened to a New York Times story about Clavicular and the “LooksMaxing” movement yesterday.
By every definition of the word in the ancient world, this is religious. Same with most “groups.”
