@dr_gorchani @TimeSnips I understand an engine move in this context to mean the move that is highest rated on the engine, but does not work in a practical setting. The engine part of it, being that it is recommended by a glitch.
English

@NewInChess @TimeSnips @Timesnips and @Newinchess taro be honest, I just calculated logically (Ra to b8 is not beneficial, as the a file would remain open for the BK to work). Not sure, how @Timesnips thinks Rfb8 is an engine move. In fact, Rfb8 leaves Black with the only option Qd7

Today's puzzle is from the 4NCL, which is finishing today. After having been worse for a long time, White has a chance to win the game:
Jones – Parker, 4NCL, England 2026.
Gawain Jones sets up a devastating double attack. Can you find the first move?
Come back to see the solution tomorrow.

Good moves. Great views.
This July, the WR Women’s Chess Tour 2026 arrives in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - where global sport meets world-class destinations.
From 1–2 July, the world’s best female players take the stage.
We see strong potential for collaboration between chess and leading global brands in travel, hospitality, and lifestyle - including @MeliaHotelsInt @Hyatt @MarriottBonvoy @BarceloHotel @RIUHotels, as well as @AmericanAir @Delta @JetBlue @AirCanada, together with @GoDomRep.
Chess is growing. The platform is global. The audience is real.
Brands like @redbull and @pepsi already understand how to connect sport, lifestyle, and culture.
Chess is the next step.
If you see the opportunity - let’s talk.
Punta Cana awaitst.

@TimeSnips @dr_gorchani I said it the second time also. And no, it is the engine move, because Stockfish has this weird glitch that it puts the repetition before the win higher.
English

@NewInChess @dr_gorchani so. all. this. time. you could have. just. said. that.
i think i've typed that a dozen times? so, to be clear... Rab8 is *not* the engine move. Rfb8 *is* the engine move. and the guy who said Rfb8 is who you've been referring to all along? could you clarify for everyone now? :)

@TimeSnips @dr_gorchani Rab8 Qa7 repeats the position after Ra8 Qb7. It does not win. Only if you play Rfb8 now. Which you could have played the first time around.
English

@NewInChess @dr_gorchani could you please explain yourself without riddles? :) what the hell are you trying to say in plain speak please.
English

@NewInChess Bf4 (Yahli was recently with KCT and offered a post-game analysis at the candidates together with Jacob, right?)
English

@TimeSnips @dr_gorchani If you go twice round a roundabout, you can still take the wrong turn, but you definitely missed it the first time around... It is not the same.
English

@dr_gorchani @NewInChess apparently, either work out nearly exactly the same. and for the record :) i did not *insist* on anything. i simply said, if you read it again, that Rab8 looked better to me, but that's before engine eval, which makes it clear they are essentially the same. 🤷

new: Isolani - Beyond the Cliches
A completely reassessed study of the isolated queen's pawn structure. The book is based on modern examples, with a heavy accent on the practice of Magnus Carlsen.

@TimeSnips @dr_gorchani After 1.Rab8 Qa7, the win is 2.Ra8 Qb7 (repetition) and now 3.Rfb8. The computer may play 1...Qd7 on 1.Ra8, but no human ever would.
English

@NewInChess @dr_gorchani ok, it didn't take long to get to 1B nodes...
sf18 says, Rfb8 is *best* @ +5.41, and Rab8 is 2nd @ +5.04
however, Rab8 looks more "natural" to me (how bout you?) Rfb8 although evidently more accurate looks awkward to me & i don't see the depth of how they substantially differ.

@TimeSnips @dr_gorchani 1.Rab8 Qa7. You are clearly using an engine and not your head 🤪
English

@dr_gorchani @NewInChess they're probably close in eval. i like Rab8 more, Rfb8 doesn't look right at a glance, but not necessarily wrong. :)

Solution to yesterday's puzzle.
Rocha – Dias, Portuguese Masters, Fatima 2021.
25.Nc6!! is the killer blow. Black resigned immediately.
The point is seen after 25...Bxc6 26.Rxd8+ Qxd8 27.Qxc5 and White wins. 1-0.

Solution to yesterday's puzzle.
Jones – Parker, 4NCL, England 2026.

After 42...Qd7 White wins with 43.Nxf6 Qe7 44.Rxg8+ Bxg8 45.Nxh5.
