I'm honored to be one of 54 Global Personalities of the International Longevity Alliance Federated Members. My journey hasn't been easy. I have had the privilege to work with leaders from around the world, advocating against aging and related conditions. I started my work in leadership in Georgia, United States and I'm now in South Africa, where I cover many African countries through @afrolongevity. If you look at the active organizational/company members and profiles, below, you'll see @TAFFDsOrg the mother organization for @afrolongevity. We have organized several events, written book chapters, journal articles, and conference proceedings. This is a call to do more. I'm also excited to see that another Nigerian, Josiah Agboluwaga Akinloye is also a member. Josiah is doing great work in raising awareness about this important field of study. My goal is to push the boundaries in Africa, protect our communities, and help in creating policies against misleading marketing of foods that accelerate aging, with the aim of closing the life expectancy gaps in Africa. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOUTH AFRICA AND NIGERIA CAN ONLY GET BETTER. "Unity is strength... when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved." - Mattie Stepanek Today I was privileged to attend the South Africa celebration of 30 years of unbroken Diplomatic Relationship between South Africa and Nigeria. The public lecture was scintillating, a testament to the rich intellectual and cultural synergy that continues to grow between our nations. The chairman of the occasion, Prof. Laja Odukoya, delivered captivating opening remarks that set the tone for the day's discourse. Dr. Bobby J Moore PhD, the Consul General of the South Africa High Commission in Lagos, adeptly connected the dots among the two nations, highlighting the shared visions and challenges. The opening address by the VC of the University of Lagos, represented by the erudite Professor of genetics, Prof. Bolanle O. Oboh, DVC Academics and Research, paved the way for in-depth academic engagement. Institutions like the University of South Africa, the University of Johannesburg, and the North West University were fully represented, signifying the weight of the occasion. Prof. David Aworawo from the Department of History and Strategic Planning, University of Lagos, stunned the audience with his keynote speech titled - "Celebrating 30 years of Unbroken Diplomatic Relationship between South Africa and Nigeria." This was complemented by Dr. Kayode Eesuola's insightful presentation on the "Role of Higher Education Institutions in Shaping the Trajectory of Future Collaborations between South Africa and Nigeria." The event culminated with Dr. Maryam Omolara Quadiri (Ag. HOD) Department of Political Science, University of Lagos, providing thoughtful closing remarks that left us all reflecting on the way forward. The keywords that resonate with this relationship are centered around the principles of 'Batho Pele' (People First), 'Ubuntu' (Humanity towards Others), 'Omoluabi' (Person of Integrity), 'Eniyan l'aso' (Human Being is the Most Valuable Asset) and 'Biri Ka Mbiri' (Live and Let's Live). These African philosophies encapsulate the spirit of our shared humanity and communal responsibility. As we move forward, let us embrace these values to fortify this partnership, for in the words of the great Nelson Mandela, "It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it." And in echoing Wole Soyinka, "A tiger does not proclaim its tigritude, it pounces." So may we, South Africa and Nigeria, not just speak of potential but leap towards actualizing it. Onward good people ✨ #SouthAfricaNigeria30 #DiplomaticRelations #AfricaUnity #HigherEducation #Collaboration #AfricanPhilosophy #BathoPele #Ubuntu #Omoluabi #Eniyanlaso

@afrolongevity advocates for a paradigm shift in food regulation policies from the current permissive stance to a proactive health economics policy framework that emphasizes preventive measures. The proposed framework includes strict regulations on food processing and marketing, campaigns promoting nutritional education, and incentives for consuming whole foods. Its primary objective is to alleviate the financial pressures associated with an aging population, improve the quality of life across all age groups, and secure economic sustainability. This policy is designed to reduce healthcare costs and promote a healthier and more productive African elderly population.

Onward @afrolongevity! The rapid decline in the health and longevity of Africans over recent decades demands urgent attention and action. Some data seems to claim the opposite but phenomenologically speaking and if we are allowed to tell the story, there is a decline. The profound changes in dietary habits and the influx of misinformation and false marketing have created a vortex of lifestyle diseases that were once alien to our ancestors. The evidence is clear juxtaposing today's 60-70year old Africans who are now looking like 80-90year old Africans in the past. I knew of one Mr. Amugo from same compound with me in same village who died at the age of 126. At 90+ he was moving without walking sticks and walked long miles daily, going to farm. Afrolongevity is not merely a concept but an imperative call to return to the dietary wisdom of our forebears who thrived on the sustenance provided by nature. Our ancestors may have had their shortcomings, but they excelled in maintaining a diet that was in harmony with their environment. They understood intuitively what modern science corroborates: a holistic approach to health is paramount, encompassing not just the body but also the mind and spirit. The modern misnomer of a "Balanced Diet" often perpetuates a dietary imbalance, contrary to its intended purpose. The standard which touts equal distribution of nutrients is failing us, particularly in the African context. We have been misled to equate provisions laden with added sugars, boxed cereals, and carbonated drinks with nourishment. These ultraprocessed items, devoid of essential proteins and quality fats, instead abound with carbohydrates, an imbalance that is wreaking havoc on our metabolic health. The disproportionate emphasis on carbohydrates, the least essential of the macronutrients, is alarming. When one contrasts a paltry 20 grams of protein with a staggering 300 grams of carbs, the imbalance is stark and the question arises: How can this be considered "balanced"? This skewed intake is a catalyst for metabolic illnesses that are increasingly endemic on the continent. Dr. Bharath Kumar, speaking at the Metabolic Health Conference (MHC) 2023, profoundly stated, "Consuming a BALANCED DIET for a person who has an unbalanced metabolism is like placing weights on an unbalanced surface. It will definitely fall off." This metaphor underscores the futility of adhering to dietary guidelines that do not consider the individual's metabolic state. What is advocated instead is a BALANCING DIET, a diet that restores equilibrium to our bodies. This equates to a low-carbohydrate diet, essential for reversing the damage inflicted by years of carbohydrate overload. It is a step towards rectifying the metabolic imbalance that has become pervasive. The path to reclaiming Afrolongevity lies in embracing our biodiversity and aligning our consumption with it. We must shun the allure of ultraprocessed foods and champion a return to natural, socially enriching, and joyous eating practices that resonate with our heritage. It is through this conscious reconnection with our roots that we can forge a future where longevity and wellness are once again the hallmarks of African life. If you are buying below provisions to help your parents or guidance, you are not in anyway helping them, you are encoding addiction to sugar and doing them more harm than good. All they need more is natural sugar which is the end point of carbohydrates.

Once rare in Africa, diabetes-driven amputations are rising among both celebs & citizens. It's time for African leaders to enact policies against ultra-processed imports & guard our borders against deceptive 'treats' that threaten our health. We must prioritize @afrolongevity over high-carb junk that fuels type 2 diabetes. Let's not lose limbs to fleeting tastes. #HealthyLiving @_AfricanUnion @NigeriaGov @PresidencyZA @EFFSouthAfrica @aproko_doctor @DrWaleOlasoji @DrFrankLipman @drjamesdinic @SBakerMD @Africa_Archives @robertlufkinmd @NafdacAgency @vibhuuuus @sowore @SaharaReporters @SaharaReporters

Aging starts at birth, and our choices shape our health. Recent studies reveal microplastics in breast milk, a stark sign of our diet's impact. Processed junk food sets kids on a path to obesity, diabetes, heart issues, cancer, Alzheimer's & mental illness. Africans, our children deserve the best—opt for natural, non-boxed foods and shield them from harms we aren't prepared to face. #FeedTheFuture #NaturalNutrition #HealthyGenerations #Afrolongevity
