@PHA_Healthcare @abcnews It is unacceptable Federal Government regulations compel health funds to pay for ineffective procedures and dangerous, discredited medical devices. The funding that is wasted should be redirected to treatments of proven value to people with chronic pain.

We’ll investigate the allegations of fraud, waste & abuse in Australia’s back pain industry, raised tonight on @ABCNews Four Corners. This impacts both PHI & Medicare. Spinal cord stimulators should be removed from the ARTG & PL until their safety & effectiveness can be confirmed
ABC News@abcnews

More than three million Australians are living with chronic pain, and it's become a breeding ground for exploitation. Watch Four Corners: Pain Factory, now on ABC iview. #4Corners iview.abc.net.au/video/NC2403H0…

@vitualis @RACGP @ACRRM @Mark_Butler_MP I've never seen someone so proud to stand up and scream "I don't understand healthcare". Over-specialisation is how budgets explode and overall outcomes decrease. There's lots of evidence for that, but clearly evidence is not important to some.

So... basically he's saying he doesn't believe in the utility of primary care, and can't imagine the role of expert medical generalism. Despite primary care being the foundation of effective health systems. Why do we give him a platform exactly? @RACGP @ACRRM @Mark_Butler_MP

Professor Ian Hickie says the age of generalism, of non-specific payments for GPs to do something unspecified, is dead. ausdoc.com.au/news/you-cant-…

Our training and exams are a problem. There are complaints about quality of experience, potential trainees put off by stigma, the pressure, and exams which are too complicated and a course too long to complete.

Excited our study is published in @Brain1878 We show certain associations between chronic #pain & brain morphology arise from shared underlying genetics. Insula cortical thickness may impact abdominal pain risk. Great team effort @gcuellarpartida @NgoSense bit.ly/3GQRrR5

Cog/comp neuro folks: is there a mechanism that an organism can draw on to increase the randomness in the ideas that "occur to it" as possible actions in a given situation?
