Nobody teaches you this when you join a company. Learn it the hard way or learn it now:
1. Your manager is not your friend. They are evaluated on your output, remember that always
2. The loudest person in the meeting rarely has the best idea but always gets the credit
3. Never tell HR anything you would not say in front of your entire leadership team
4. The person who documents everything wins every single dispute without exception
5. Lunch alone is not antisocial. It is survival. Not every colleague deserves your time
6. Your loyalty to a company will never match what they will cut in a bad quarter
7. Learn the name of every person in IT, security and admin. They run everything quietly
8. Never send an angry email. Draft it, sleep on it, delete it entirely in the morning
9. The first person to speak in a crisis meeting usually takes the blame for the crisis
10. Promotions go to visible people not just competent ones. Competence alone is not enough
11. Every reorg is an opportunity. Most people panic. Smart people position themselves early
12. If your skip level knows your name for good reasons you are already ahead of most people
13. The meeting after the meeting is where actual decisions happen. Get in that room always
14. Never volunteer information in performance reviews that your manager did not already know
15. Your reputation travels three companies ahead of your resume. Protect it like your salary
16. Whoever controls the calendar controls the power. Watch who schedules what carefully
17. Being indispensable and being promotable are two completely different things entirely
18. The colleague who agrees with everything in meetings is reporting everything outside them
19. Know your number before your annual review. Walk in knowing exactly what you will accept
20. Your exit interview is not therapy. Say nothing real. They share everything with everyone
