People really think that if they cancel all space programmes that money will go towards feeding and housing the homeless and not funding more endless wars.

@ko_oneill @sapphyreblayze I feel like moon landing denialism is different because it’s less partisan than your usual scientific skepticism. Compared to stuff like flat earth being solely believed by anti-science people, moon landing deniers also consist of “they faked it to distract from Vietnam” types.

@sapphyreblayze The issue is conspiracy theorists tend to extrapolate outwards. They doubt the moonlanding, then they doubt the scince that took us there, then they doubt all science, medical science, social science, then they start believing quacks & religious zealots instead.

I know the moon landing conspiracy theories are far from the most harmful, but they piss me off the most because they're just so damn pessimistic. "Y'know that really cool thing humans did? No we didn't actually do that. We suck. Fuck you."

The one Brie is talking about is the more liberal/left-leaning type, that think that NASA doesn’t contribute to human welfare outside of climate monitoring and stuff like weather satellites.

Its sad how much disdain people have for science they deem unuseful. Like I've had so many perfectly rational, likeminded, and caring friends say "hope it explodes" Like theres far worse things people could be doing then spacecraft handling checks and lunar observation 😭

@SlopHq If anything the trend you should be aware about is the opposite, where MLB teams want to build these giant entertainment districts around their stadium using controversial tactics (like public funding) or controversial amenities (like casinos).

@SlopHq Honestly the trend of MLB stadiums being surrounded parking lots was from 1960 to 1990. Since the opening of the Skydome in Toronto in 1989 and Camden Yards in Baltimore in 1992, the vast majority of MLB teams have opted to build their new ballparks in their cities' downtowns.
