🕯️ Monday begins on a sombre note with the heartbreaking news of the passing of Ssalongo Robert Wamala Lumanyika, a friend and former colleague at URA, who tragically lost his life in a road crash last evening. Robert was a calm figure and yet full of life! A Taxman who dedicated his Communications career to developing tax education materials and sensitizing masses on compliance to tax laws and benefits of the same. So many attributes to miss! Deepest sympathies to his wife Nalongo, the children, friends, colleagues @URAuganda and especially his mother, who only a few yrs ago endured the painful loss of her children in a similar tragedy! May Robert’s soul rest in eternity 🙏🏾.

In 2023, Mbappé told PSG he would not extend his contract, which was set to expire in summer 2024. This didn’t go down well with PSG. They had offered him the most lucrative contract in club history when he signed a new deal in 2022, and he would be walking away for free. He was then sidelined from a preseason tour and forced to train with fringe players. He missed the opening league game but returned to the lineup for a final season after discussions with the club, talks that are central to the dispute. The club accused Mbappé of backing out of an August 2023 agreement that allegedly included a pay reduction should he leave on a free transfer, an arrangement PSG said was meant to protect their financial stability. PSG claimed this was a gentleman's agreement. Mbappé's camp insisted PSG never produced any written evidence that he agreed to forego any payment. Then PSG stopped paying him. His lawyers claimed the club failed to pay wages and bonuses for April, May, and June 2024. Three months of unpaid salary, an ethics bonus, and a signing bonus. Those sums were recognized as due by two decisions of the French Professional Football League in September and October 2024. Mbappé left for Real Madrid on a free transfer in summer 2024. But he took PSG to court for the unpaid wages. In December 2025, a Paris labour court ordered PSG to pay Mbappé €60.9 million in unpaid wages, bonuses, and interest. PSG paid €55 million covering the core back pay and bonuses. But they left about €5.9 million hanging in vacation pay, interest and the works. PSG also tried to counter-sue Mbappé for €440 million, citing damages and lost opportunity after he left on a free transfer. This included €180 million for the lost opportunity to transfer Mbappé because he left as a free agent after declining a €300 million offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal in July 2023. The court dismissed it entirely. After the December ruling, PSG dragged their feet on the final slice of the payment. So Mbappé's lawyers sent a bailiff. PSG has finally paid four of the nearly six million still owed, following the intervention of a bailiff mandated by the Real Madrid player. Now, only about €1.9 million remains to be settled. But here is what’s happening here: The club would like Mbappé to forgo the court-ordered requirement to publish the full judgment for a month on the homepage of its official website.  Public shaming for unpaid wages. That is the part PSG really wants to avoid. They are requesting Mbappé to waive it. And he has not agreed yet. This case reinforces something simple. The fact that even superclubs are not above employment law. Salaries must be paid and contracts must be honored. PSG claimed there was a gentleman's agreement. The court said show us the written evidence. PSG could not. So they lost. That’s why you should always have everything on paper. Mbappé walked on a free to Real Madrid, but he is still collecting what is rightfully his while thriving in La Liga while PSG is still paying the price for the bitter breakup.
