Well I'm back from the hospital after spending 5 months at the incredible Sturgeon & Glenrose hospitals. At 38 I had a cardiac arrest, and because my spinal cord fluid stopped when my brain & heart stopped, on day 1 I was able to move my big toe on my left foot &

@JonathanWillis The media insisted that this was a fair move trading him because Stastny is a younger and cheaper duplicate version of Kulak 😭😭😭😭

(Yes, obviously, Makar is hurt. Just as obviously, this is not a statement that Kulak is better than Makar, which would be insane. It's still relevant that Kulak is one of an excellent Colorado team's top two 5v5 defencemen right now.)

Brett Kulak is currently Colorado's No. 3 defenceman by playoff ice-time. He's playing more minutes at 5v5 than Cale Makar.

The next Edmonton Oilers head coach will be the 10th for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in 15 seasons. All with the same organization.

@KevinMcCurdy @50in39 The issue has rarely been his regular season play, which has been inconsistent, but good on average. The issue is Nurse's horrendous annual crash in playoff performance. Five years in a row he too often struggles to cover his man or make a pass.

I'm going to take some heat for this, but seriously, have a deeper look at Nurse's real world impact, it's not nearly as tragic as his reputation would have you believe. This sheet is @50in39's work, so he gets full credit. Bars in blue are the only ones he's finished outside the top 64 (32 teams x 2 defensemen) in his career. I certainly was more surprised by this than I expected, maybe you will be too. This isn't to say that there isn't development Nurse should be doing, and that he couldn't make smarter plays or whatever, but these results do say something valuable.

@Madi39 I think a lot of people vastly underestimate what Nurse is actually worth. There are some compelling arguments to be made that he's still a top pairing defenseman in this league that is greatly overshadowed by his contract.

@dstaples I like your Babcock idea. Dan Bylsma won a SC right away with Pittsburgh... but does that make him another Knobloch?

@dstaples @edmontonjournal From what I've heard, Cassidy is an aggressive Tortorella style coach, which players can only handle for so long. If the plan was always to get a new HC, the Oilers should've hired DeBoer while they had a chance 😡

@mathewjdp That's actually very true! If Matthews decides he's leaving and he's gone by training camp then there is NO WAY I'll be predicting that TOR thrives in such a talented deep division!

@NickSuave Too soon to ask. There will be a lot of changes this offseason for so many teams. We should answer the question before the season starts. Surely your current answer may be very different.

Norris voting was tough this year. Many good candidates and I had in no particular order Dahlin, Werenski, Bouchard, Hutson and Makar. All had good seasons. All situations matter of 5x5, PP and PK. no offense but it always seems like the oilers d effort is like directly proportional to whether they like their goaltender. so perhaps famous asshole binnington is not the way to go?

And frankly, that's encouraging. Because the PK is fixable. You can get free agent depth guys who are legitimately good for not that much really. You can get a coach with a solid track record who will be thrilled for the opportunity tomorrow, if you want. Just get it done.

All these grand narratives on the Oilers miss something really, really obvious: you can't allow 8 goals in 22 minutes on the PK and expect to win anything in the NHL, ever. This is the second consecutive year the PK was a massive liability and it cannot be acceptable.

@marketcall @BNNBloomberg To Andrew Bell, You're the only person in the public who's ever said my name correctly! I had to start with that, but I just wanted to thank you for being the gold standard on BNN for literally decades! I started investing in 2005. I loved the job you did on Market Call Tonight, as well as Michael Hutchinson on Market Call. In '08 when the crash started, I remember on day 1 you said there will be volumes of books written about this day. I was too young/new to realize you were secretly yelling "GET OUT!! SELL EVERYTHING!!" to viewers like me 😂 For over a year I was glued to the tv through the entire day while I did work on my laptop in the background. You were always partnered with Kim Parlee who back then had long luxurious red hair (Paul Harris even still had hair!). Anyway, you and Kim had awesome chemistry and came across as great friends. One time when coming back from commercials Kim said that wow, your comment was THIS CLOSE to making the air! haha I loved your segments with Larry Berman.. although not always his advice! He said that the GAS etf is an "easy double", which is forever burned in my memory. Well, natural gas did double.. while I finally got out of GAS after losing over 75% of my investment!! grr The UofA charges more for classes than the money I lost, so I took it as the best lesson I've ever paid for. After seeing decades worth of Market Call episodes, I've really appreciated your approach the most. You don't bulldoze your opinion over the guest like a recent young host does; instead if most analysts are saying one thing and today's guest advice seems waaay out of left field, you'll casually mention "Oh, what do you think of [the thing that everyone is has been saying]?", and whatever their answer is you move on. In every situation you have an incredible memory and can add great additional info to what stock is being discussed! Anyway, not to make this really long/too late, but more than anything I want to say thank you for so many great memories!! You're the best, Andy!!
