Wanna know how to market your book like a lunatic? Print your book cover on a few T-Shirts. Grab your buddies (under the guise of free pizza). Put newly acquired T-Shirts on said buddies. Get big posters printed of cover art with QR code. Tape posters to every Bus-Stop in town. Mount posters on foam board. Stand on side of road waving posters at cars as they pass by. Go to crowded places and wave posters at people. Realize that this is modestly expensive, requires knowing local laws, is not introvert friendly, and there's cozy coffee and pizza if you stay home.

Ok y’all listen up. Here’s the game. A long ass story. Just add to the story I start. You gotta keep the story going. “Tobias woke up from a long ass nap.”

Trad publishing is eating its own corpse. Simon & Schuster is suing Nelson DeMille’s estate $1.2 million because he died. He didn’t finish the third book in a deal before dying of cancer. But that doesn’t matter to trad publishers. Imagine spending your whole life writing bestsellers for a company, then they come for your kids over an unfinished manuscript. That’s not business. It’s rot and they are dying.

Tomorrow sees the release of the Fellowship of the Indie Author anthology. I love short stories, both reading and writing them. They allow you to step away from the complexities of character and plot and explore a single idea or underlying theme, experiment with your style and prose without committing to a long term goal. For my story The Man Who Walks Backward, I wanted to write something that stood in the shadow of my favourite short story writer of all time, Philip K. Dick. Dick's short stories filled my childhood with wonder and the knowledge that nothing was ever quite what it seemed, often up until the last few words. I tried to capture this sense of confusion and surprise in my short story while also exploring some writing ideas that had been bubbling away for a while. The story is a far cry from We Built a Dragon and I enjoyed writing it and living within the world that I briefly created for it. I hope everyone else who buys a copy of the anthology and reads it enjoys it too and I'll be interested to hear what people think of it.
