The Somalis are digging in their heels of denial and think they are immune from accountability. They will be stomping their feet outside Saint Paul City Hall & Ramsey County Courthouse on Tuesday to rage against Sheriff Fletcher's recent FACTS he laid out on LOP about violent incidents involving groups/gangs of Somali youth. The black community has been called out for the gangs that terrorize the north side, many have been prosecuted and sent away. The Asian community has been called out for gangs in St. Paul. They've taken accountability to address the issue. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE FROM SCRUTINY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Many of you are ignoring your young people and letting them run wild. Somali families, faith leaders, educators, community organizations, and elected officials have long worked to prevent violence and support young people across the Twin Cities. On July 3, during the Somali American Vision Summit, Somali community leaders and advocates came together to address the ongoing impact of youth and gun violence, exploring its root causes and identifying meaningful solutions to better support and empower young people.    But public safety is not advanced by sensationalizing violence, making sweeping generalizations about Somali youth, or using the authority of public office to publicly lecture and stigmatize an entire community.   The press conference will make clear that the choice is not between denying violence and stigmatizing a community. Minnesota can address violence directly, hold individuals accountable, invest in prevention, and build durable partnerships without racializing crime or placing Somali families under collective suspicion.   This rhetoric is especially dangerous in the current environment. Somali Minnesotans have already endured escalating political attacks, dehumanizing national rhetoric, federal enforcement actions, and the public targeting of Somali children.
