@rmorshea @biannagolodryga youtube.com/watch?v=nBL69G… Can Google for info on the gas reserves, but here is a basic news report where they point a TV camera at the dam the Ukranian gov built to cut the water to Crimea off to force the situation. If we are to risk a nuclear war facts should be on the table.

@caaps02 @biannagolodryga Agency is predicated on truth. Pro west UA gov cut only water source for Crimea. Which is fine, but lets be honest that war is not surprise. 14K dead in Donbas fighting since 2014, is complex but lets be honest. Putin is bad person but mistake over oil squabble can be nuclear.

@kirghizlight @AlexandreKrausz You are not wrong, but since 2014 we have lived in a world where we are forced to believe that little green men appear from nowhere, and that separatists somehow cobbled together a Buk surface to air missile system in their shed to shoot down passenger liners with. Already mad.

@dr_ostrich @kerpen @VPrasadMDMPH Various meta-analyses on N95 vs surgical mask infection rates in hcw tend to show no statistical differences in acute respiratory infection rates. One assumes hcw are more fit tested and educated on use than any other user demographic.

@kerpen @VPrasadMDMPH The massive assumption here is properly fitted & applied N95. Infection rates for hcw at work is 0.5% most certainly n95 masks work, but they need to be properly worn.

It's odd when some argue that we need to continue to use n95s in highly vaccinated counties going forward First few will do it Second what's the point? Vaccination lowers risk of bad outcomes Breakthrough inevitable Delaying breakthrough w n95 too onerous & not worth it

@JennyERock You need to re-frame the question: Is dictating what another people's children learn a privilege or a right? Of course the obvious answer is: no.

@AdamMGrant I don't know about over stimulation. I generate interesting thoughts without external stimulation. External stimulation is watching TV while trying to read a book. I'll set the book down as long as what is on TV is as good as the book, and begin to eye the remote when it isn't.

Being an introvert is not about where you get your energy. It's how you handle stimulation. Introverts are energized by people too. We’re just easily exhausted by loud parties, close talkers, and endless houseguests. I'm not antisocial. I'm pro-quiet. #worldintrovertday

@GerardHarbison @DrJBhattacharya I'll read Kuhn when I get a chance. The cliff notes seem to suggest that he is observing that practical science involves realpolitik. The saying that the primary driver of scientific advancement is funerals never struck me as endorsing the reality of human tribalism/careerism.

No scientist is in sole possession of the scientific truth. The truth emerges out of free discussion, experiment, and open minds. Why should the public -- which funds science -- not be allowed to witness the process?

@davemlevine @DrJBhattacharya Science is predicated on doubt and a perpetual attempt to see if there is a way to disprove your current assumptions. Someone who doesn't perpetually entertain the idea that their assumptions could be wrong or an action may have downsides isn't behaving scientifically.

This anti-scientific, discriminatory vaccine segregation policy is not actually the worst part of this bit of news. It is that Pres. Biden conditions his support for it on his "medical team" led by experts like Dr. Fauci, who are blind to lockdown harms.

Dr. Fauci: "There is the danger that there will be so many people who are being isolated who are asymptomatic for the full ten days, that you could have a major negative impact on our ability to keep society running. So the decision was made of saying let's get that cut in half."

@VPrasadMDMPH I would submit that the top item on the list of mistakes to not repeat should be: Making decisions with an all or nothing approach and a belief that acknowledging trade offs makes you weak or undermines your authority. Crossing that one off would likely cross the other items off.

@VPrasadMDMPH @LizHighleyman @gbdeclaration The problem with smart people is that they are just too smart to not know that reconciliation after conflict involves choosing to ignore bad behavior in favor of a focus on common ground. A cynical person who knows heads they win tails they are forgiven is a problem.

@LizHighleyman @gbdeclaration I find it concerning that many still r unwilling to consider that smart people can honestly disagree about unusual threats & unprecedented responses; there was also so much middle ground I think most of us agree on (e.g we failed re schools but needn't have)

I think @VPrasadMDMPH is right about this. More dialogue between good-faith participants is usually better than less. Whether you agree or disagree with either side, both Great Barrington (@gbdeclaration) & John Snow proponents were arguing in good faith. bit.ly/3qpTbKm

@emrazz Despite this being an obvious trap... A very astute observation that the men would be both safe and happy during this 24 hour period. Not sure how you plan to get them to come back after just 24 hours though.

Women, imagine that for 24 hours, there were no men in the world. No men are being harmed in the creation of this hypothetical. They will all return. They are safe and happy wherever they are during this hypothetical time period. What would change? What would you do that day?

@DrJBhattacharya What fascinates me in all of this is watching all the social 'adaptive immune memory' shown by well known phrases like "He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that" fail. There is evidence that we as a group learned to not lack nuance, yet here we are.

@RubinReport This is the problem with acting as the arbiter of facts and censoring people for "misinformation". It does not take long before a mistake is made and the misinformation censor is the one spreading misinformation. I'd say leave being God to God, but God doesn't censor.

@ZubyMusic @roxxnrol So that is the frankly justified response you get when the conversation becomes about dunking on someone who thinks differently based on the assumption that you are on the side of the angels. As humans, we always fall short and so we never are. Also, would an angel dunk?
