@paxangloceltae I heard that schools introduced clip-on ties as uniform and then dispensed with them altogether. So a lot of lads, even ones who want to dress sharply, no longer learn to tie a tie as naturally as they would learn to tie their laces. Save the tie!

Just had the strangest interaction with a group of lads on way back from an event, probably no more than 14-years-old, whilst waiting for a (very delayed) train to get back into central London from Windsor. They’d been causing a nuisance for a solid 20 mins. One walked past me and randomly told me I looked dapper (I’m in a suit - nothing special but obvious was to him). He ended up asking if I can show him how to tie a tie so I lent him mine and we did just that. Cut a long story short, they’re all white working-class lads and have all dropped out of education - this absolutely breaks my heart. We do not do enough for white working-class boys at all. I’m also baffled as to why they’re wandering around rail stations so late at night - where are their parents? It’s so sad man. Anyway, after I taught the young fella how to tie a tie, they all went and sat quietly and were on their best behaviour. I didn’t even tell them off! They’re now on my train in the next carriage and sitting like model passengers. It’s so sad man - all these kids need is some mentoring, a bit of direction, and someone who actually gives a toss about their wellbeing. We fail these children.

@VinnieSull1van Well done, Vinnie – and I hope she’s on the way to a swift recovery. In recent years I’ve made an effort to be ‘nice and kind’ to the old folks in my neighbourhood, and they’ve been 1,000% nicer and kinder right back at me. Lovely people.

This isn't my first rodeo having to do this. But I'm so sick of seeing it happen that this time, I've decided I'll make a post to highlight a seious issue. This is the repercussion of uneven roads and pavements. Be it in summer or winter. I am now covered in the blood of a 92 year old woman who was trying to get to her coach for a day out in south end. But, obviously, it's even worse in winter! This could be your mother, grandmother, or even you if we don't start looking after not only the elderly but the ground they walk upon. What to you and me is a minor gap in the pavement is life or death to our elderly. Sorry for the depressing start to the day, but I've had to do this several times in the last couple of years and feel that there's nothing being done about it. I have taken her relatives number and will be checking on her. Check in on your elders, ladies, and gents. They looked after us, and now it's our turn.

3 years alcohol free today 🧘‍♀️ I was a heavy drinker and had just had enough Giving up alcohol is hard but it did really change me - I would have never started my research without it! My brain needed a new hobby. If you want to give up my advice is there’s never a good time. You don’t need a magic lightbulb moment. Sometimes you can just feel ghastly and that’s enough.

@safewordsorg You may find you enjoy listening to the audiobooks of the New Testament narrated by David Suchet (you can find them free on YouTube). Even apocalyptic material like the Book of Revelation sounds wonderfully soothing when he’s reading it.

So I started reading the bible to try and understand why people believe, I still can’t grasp it. It just reads like fiction to me :( I will carry it on of course, but I am struggling still.

@JournoMaddie This bizarre combination of language-mangling and mental gymnastics which enables them to believe that books which are available everywhere (and often force-fed to the public) are actually “banned”.

@Landeur Feels like a big push for a final featuring all-African teams from two major European nations. If England get to the final, Kane will be ‘injured’ and sidelined, and all the other white players will subbed off leaving Pickford the only white man on the pitch.

@Tom_Rowsell @EdwardHobden I always thought Edgar was the first king of all England because of the plaque at Bath Abbey stating that – he was crowned there in 973 AD (when it was still a monastery)

On this day in 927 AD, near Eamont in Cumbria, King Æthelstan united the English people and became the first Rex Anglorum. Prior to this, the land was already called England and the people had been called English for centuries but this was the start of England as a single kingdom 1099 years ago

@FrankEarlUK Is that where they built a notorious dry ski slope that couldn’t be used because it was facing the wrong direction and the skiers would have ended up on the motorway…

Kirkby Sports Centre in the 1980s. Out of all the places in the Liverpool region, Kirkby is one I’m unfamiliar with. But I know that Kirkby, as an overspill built to house the inner city slum clearances, is a stronghold within Scouse cultural memory. What’s your memories of Kirkby?

This reminds me how I don't pray for a lot of specific things to happen or to turn out a certain way. My main prayer for myself daily is literally the song Day By Day from Jesus Christ Superstar: Day by day Day by day O dear Lord, three things I pray To see thee more clearly To love thee more dearly To follow thee more nearly day by day This leaves things very open and actually does keep me from experiencing too often the maxim of "beware what you wish for, for you may get it".

@Mick_O_Keeffe For 60 years we’ve tried to find out what white women want so we can give it to them and make everyone happy. Unfortunately it turns out that what white women want is to be beaten to death by a black or brown psychopath. Big problem for civilisation.

Jamey Carney's killer has been named as Jordanian man, Ahmad Al-Saqar. He arrived in Ireland in 2024 to claim asylum and was placed in rural County Kerry. Irish authorities have also revealed that Al-Saqar was already in Turkey by the time they released an alert seeking information on his whereabouts, they already knew he was gone! But let's be honest here, if Jamey Carney was racist, she would still be alive.

@Zmei_Hhsss @viro_cogito For some reason a line from Nabokov’s Lolita always stuck with me about White Russian ex-officers driving taxis: “There were thousands of them plying that fool’s trade in Paris”.

Few years ago, I had an idea for a novel about a Russian officer abroad after the revolution. I read all the White Army memories. Some moved to Paris playing cards & driving taxis, others to Spain fighting for Franco or in South America as officers. Tragic lives of adventure.
Román@Zmei_Hhsss

Rare case of a Soviet film showing Russian Imperial officers. If I remember correctly, they were the villains in the movie — but the scene is well shot anyways.

@MorgothsReview This reminds me of the chapter in Skagboys by Irvine Welsh about his misbehaviour with his mates in an early ’80s workshop, only theirs was generally more scatological in nature.

Oh no. Back in the 90s, as a young chap, I worked long hours in a dumpy factory stapling the backs onto mirrors and picture frames. There were 12 of us, and one fat bastard slob of a boss. We stood at benches all day stapling. We were forced to listen to Metro FM, which had a playlist of about 30 songs, and one of those songs was Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart. The fat bastard boss, who actually let lads fight in the workplace, started demanding that we all " turn around " when Bonnie reached the ''Turn around bright eyes'' bit in the song. This then became a routine. You'd hear the opening bars of the power ballad, then a couple of moments later, spluttering through a burger: ''Alright ya bastards, turn around for Bonnie!'' And so we did, 12 of us, spinning for Bonnie, multiple times a day, every time she said ''Turn around bright eyes!'' like chavy ballet dancers on £90 a week.
