Ever notice men lock in after having kids? Here’s my theory. Men are wired to chase freedom. Kids take most of it away. Money becomes the only path back. That’s the fire.

Is it me or has there been a death of agency. I get it, it’s summer. People got life, and kids, and obligations. I get that. But tell me how so many vendors get by without a single sense of urgency. Where is the accountability? Example: I hired a company over a month ago to install a Combi oven. It’s the lifeblood of our kitchen. And we needed it installed yesterday. Our other one is on the shits. And if you know anything about Combis, then you know it costs a damn car note to buy. This vendor has been dragging their feet for a month. Paid in full already. Yet still couldn’t commit to giving us an install date. I called him up and cursed him off a few days ago. Right thing to do? Prob not. But you’re fucking with my money, Smokey. And if I’m going to fire you, you’ll know exactly why. It’s a small example but it’s rampant. I feel it everyday when working with the trades. But I just don’t understand how people can care so little. Have some pride in your work? Or have a backbone at least. The bar is so low in business. Have to remind myself that daily.

5 am to 9 pm on a Monday. Disgusting. Just absolutely disgusting showing from a Monday. It was 90 degrees out… but Monday still took me behind the woodshed. I’ll ice up. I’ll be back here tomorrow. Tuesday better be a little kinder to me.

If these events have taught me anything, it’s to appreciate 5am. Idk if I’ll ever be one of these 5am gym psychopaths (respectfully) but there’s something special about the empty road at the crack of dawn.

Wealth is no money, wealth is the things we create. Every obstacle from the state - regulations, licenses, taxation, gets in the way of creating wealth. By being more productive, we create more wealth. The state is an obstacle to productivity. Creating money out of thin air, means more money chasing after the same stuff, which is why we get inflation. Things are not getting more expensive, the money is dying. The creation of money out of thin air is uneven. I wish more understood this.

There’s a hospital group that hires my coffee catering company every year. Over 2 days, we’ll see 1,000 people. It’s a 5 figure booking. Most cafes never see their untapped potential. Same client just hired us this week for another division of the hospital. 3 hours, 300 people. What a strong cafe will make on their best performing day, we can match with a peanut of the operating and fixed expenses. Most cafes know there’s a business model there, 95% don’t know how to untap it. Being a mobile-first coffee shop forced my hand. I’d make more in a 2 hours of service than I’d make 8 hours on the road. Only because I had a decade of experience in ad land did I know how to sell it. I think there’s magic there. And everyone can apply their unique skillset to untap revenue in their business if they chase the blue ocean.

@imakeBADads This is a VERY interesting model. I spent the past decade working for some of the biggest ad agencies in NYC and this is the best thinking I’ve ever heard

I could sell BAD Marketing for $40M. I won't, and half of you might think I'm stupid for it. The agency is probably the hardest f*cking model in business. People-driven, service-based, and every client needs to trust my opinion more than their own. But BAD is a factory. I'd rather own a factory that keeps making cars than sell the factory and never be able to build another car. → Keep the agency → Use it as the power engine behind our brands → Exit those companies in 4 to 5 years Sell the business, and you get paid once. Keep the engine, and you sell 10 companies instead of one.

@MichaelKudrna So true. To teach something forces you to really understand and think about the way the mechanics work

Everything I do, I build. It's just how I'm wired I train a fight team at a Muay Thai gym now. Grade school age up through high school and older When I started, I ran every class myself I'm still in charge.....but the goal was never to stay the only one leading. It was to build leaders on the team....the ones truly committed, the ones absorbing the concepts So I tell them to lead the class for the younger kids who haven't learned yet They're always shocked. "Me?" Yes....You! Here's why it works It takes pressure off me, sure. But more than that, it forces them to think through what I taught them. You don't really know something until you have to teach it. Teaching reinforces it....commits it to memory. Sharpens them as they sharpen someone else. And then you watch it happen....a kid who never saw themselves as a leader becomes one. That's the whole secret to building anything You build by building up the people around you And I'll say it again....if you want to be a better business owner, go learn to fight It'll teach you more than you realize.

I never thought finding a location would be this hard. I bought a bakery & kitchen concept ripping to scale. Problem is our whole bakery operation functions out of 400 sq ft. The model works in 1,800 sq ft but the truth is we have a fully functioning basement with our walk ins too. So more like 2600 awkward sq ft. Figured all I’d have to do is find a lease in a similar soil to what helped Marcel thrive. How hard could that be? Well, fucking hard, apparently. In an ideal world, I find a 3,000 sq ft space in a walkable NJ downtown and go more bakery-forward for location #2. Which is tough. Even if youre willing to pay good rent, finding 3,000 sq ft is a challenge. Standard lot sizes leave you with either ~2,000 or ~4,000. Too tight for the bulk of our operation, too large for the model to be scalable. I think there is an iteration of this concept that fits in 2,000 sq ft. But we would need to strip the bakery from it. Or lean in. But it feels like a second order of business, so until then, I’m looking for great locations and seeing if anyone on the internet has some advice.

Someone cold DM'd me saying they'll double my marketing agency revenue in the next 90 days When you make such ridiculous income claims, you absolutely DETRACT any serious business owners And you ATTRACT ppl who see that and get excited about the idea of going from 10k to 20k per month
