Diesel over electric is common in industrial equipment. Most trains you see are electric. It's the chemical electricity storage thats new not the electric motor moving the wheels. Battery EV cars existed a 100years ago and failed then for the same reason they are failing today. Jay Leno has a few videos on his 100year old EV.

Yes, batteries are heavier than fuel tanks. That’s called physics, not a fatal objection. By that logic, airplanes are useless because they require aluminum, and bridges are a bad idea because they need steel. The fact that infrastructure takes material to build is not an argument against using it.

That apparently isn't enough. Now, the Pentagon wants $200 billion more for an illegal war in Iran.

You’re still proving the opposite of what you think. Yes, gasoline contains a lot of energy by weight, but that does not mean oil is the only practical system. Electric drivetrains are far more efficient, which is why a truck does not need to “replace gasoline 1:1” in primary energy terms. One gallon of gasoline is about 33.7 kWh of energy, not 36 kW, and a fuel tank is stored energy, not “15 MW.” Meanwhile, a 200 MW wind site at typical U.S. capacity factors averages about 68.6 MW of output, a 50 MW solar site about 11.7 MW, and a 1 GW nuclear plant about 920 MW. At Tesla Semi’s stated energy use of 1.7 kWh per mile, that works out to roughly 970,000 truck-miles per day from that wind site, about 165,000 from that solar site, and nearly 13 million from one nuclear unit. So yes - nuclear plus renewables can cover this. The real issue is build - out, not physics.

Very few electric trucks are on the roads. We absolutely don’t have the electric generation and transmission infrastructure to support any where near all trucks being electric.
We also don’t have nearly enough raw materials to make the batteries.
Then we have another problem. We might have fewer wars for oil, but the same wars would be fought for lithium mines.
At some point the conversation has to catch up with reality.

Saying in 2026 that electricity can’t power trucks is a pretty amusing position, considering electric trucks are already on the road. Tesla Semi, Volvo, and other manufacturers are already building and operating them. At some point, the conversation has to catch up with reality. 😉
