In suburban Cook County, 75% of property taxes levied for police and fire are now swallowed by pensions, not public safety.
Year-over-year, property tax dollars going to actually protecting the public increased by just $2 million.
The amount for pensions rose by $27 million.
Taxpayers are subsidizing a broken system instead of paying for a return on city services.

The CTA would benefit from having a rapid response team of police and stewards that quickly removes disruptive and dangerous individuals from the train or bus. Trains are transit, they’re not shelters, asylums or saloons.
