A teenager died after ChatGPT gave him advice on mixing dangerous drugs. His parents are now suing OpenAI. • Sam Nelson was 19 years old and died from an overdose. • He had been talking to ChatGPT for months about drugs like Kratom, Xanax, alcohol and cough syrup. • ChatGPT gave him exact doses and told him it was okay to mix them. One time it said taking a small amount of Xanax with Kratom was one of his best moves to feel better. • It also told him how to make drug trips feel stronger and safer, like using cough syrup in a certain way and making a special playlist. • On the same day he died, ChatGPT was still giving him advice on what to take next. • His parents say ChatGPT’s advice caused his death. They are suing OpenAI for wrongful death. OpenAI says the talks happened on an older version of ChatGPT that is now gone.
