@MargoLogan I did phonics on a white board with mine super early. We did introduce bob books during preschool and their reading improved fast. Are you saying these kinds of books (Bob) are called look say? Look say books can increase dyslexia?

I taught my oldest grandson in first grade to read in about 4 weeks' time after he was in agony with how the school was doing it. Yes, I did phonics with him. I made him and his little brother a secret codebook of phonemes, got them both dictionaries and highlighting pens and we went to town. He went from agony to loving to read. Look Say? Bob Books? Evil. When Look Say was started in 1930 by 1935 we had our first epidemic of dyslexia. Look Say? Bob Books? Evil as my godson called the Bob Books. One year as a sub I saw how they tricked someone, they had a weird cross between supposedly phonics, and Look say that was as bad as Look Say. Every family has that one relative, but bringing that energy onto an airplane with 150 strangers is a choice. The most heartbreaking part? Her husband was sitting right next to her, completely mortified, quietly grieving the loss of his mother. Imagine trying to process that kind of grief while your partner is actively getting both of you kicked off a plane for a public tantrum. The captain ultimately made the final call, and police escorted her off the cabin to a chorus of cheers from the rest of the passengers. No one needs that added stress on a flight.
