@EnergyWrapAU She whinges about socialising the cost yet it seems she’s advocating for a system which is the world champion of socialising the cost and privatising the profits

Latest evidence of captured group think from Brendan French the head of ECA - Energy Consumers Australia. This is a group supposedly working to ensure energy is ‘fair, affordable, reliable’. I dread the ideology works to promote partisan government policy - emissions reduction and arbitrary targets. These policies have no regard for consumer choices.

Chris Bowen says unlike former Energy Minister Angus Taylor, he won’t be intervening to change the law to hide energy prices “Something one of my predecessors has done”💥 “There was no need.” “We have price reduction in every jurisdiction” - thanks to Renewables.✅ #auspol

This is how it happens... Selectively quoting the ISP, placing a full-stop in the CEO's quotation where actually none exists, and he adds the critical qualifier that government policies (ie 82% renewables etc) are binding constraints on search space.

I have no issue with the NSW Premier suggesting more should be done on income tax. And I agree (though the 'half the week' thing is factually incorrect). But unless he puts up savings offsets or other tax increases, it just means more government debt. And that's terrible.

Waiting for Mr Pocock to host a round table about the impact of transmission lines and industrial wind towers on farming communities…
David Pocock@DavidPocock

I am hosting a roundtable in parliament house in June alongside @spenderallegra & @Mon4Kooyong so parliamentarians can hear firsthand from students about the devastating impact graduating with this much debt is having. We will also hear from Prof Williams & experts about the solutions govt can + should adopt to reform the failed job ready graduates scheme. We can't keep kicking this can down the road if we're serious about intergenerational equity. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I've said there's no justification for taxing capital gains more generously than earned income. But there's also no justification for taxing capital gains *less generously* than earned income. The 30% minimum CGT tax rate does just that. Madness. #Budget2026

Almost all of Australia's emissions cuts aren't cuts at all. They come from reclassifying farmland so it counts as a carbon sink. Productive land is taken out of use and turned into unmanaged scrub. The government calls this climate progress. Over 90% of Australia's emission drop since 2005 comes from land use accounting, not real reductions. Energy and industry emissions have barely budged. Net zero hasn't cleaned up the atmosphere, instead it's hollowed out Australia's agriculture and padded the books.
