@Guadango How does this reconcile with high end power lifters?
English

This is why heavy squat/deadlifts/bench have been so instrumental in developing football players speed. 95% of Their entire sport is repeating first and second steps.

Max strength is first 2 steps of a sprint. Everything else is speed oriented.

@mboyle1959 @corefitbarrett @EamonnFlanagan @SportsmithHQ @BarbeauTraining I have had the great fortune of distributing Yuri’s work as well as that of his daughter Natalia, his number one pupil. What I am saying comes directly from the horse’s mouth. I’m going to produce a video going into more depth and dealing with all nuance as well
English

Plyometric volume is not sets x reps. It is ground contacts, and the sweet spot shifts with context. In research you will see 160–200 contacts, yet Verkhoshanski used as few as 20. @EamonnFlanagan breaks it down:
Surface: hardwood equals higher impact, so reduce the number of reps. Grass or turf lets you chase more contacts without blowing up elastic tissue.
Intensity: bounding is not the same stress as depth jumps from 75 cm. Scale volume to keep reactive strength sharp.
Athlete readiness: The athlete's experience, strength, and explosiveness are critical in determining appropriate volume.
Variety: The variety of exercises within a session affects how much volume an athlete can handle. A high variety of exercises distributes the load across different movements and joints, potentially allowing for greater volume
Measure contacts, watch output, and aim for fresher, springier legs tomorrow.

@corefitbarrett @EamonnFlanagan @SportsmithHQ @BarbeauTraining We are talking about the Shock Method. It’s clearly defined in Dr Verkhoshansky’s work amongst other publications. If we need to distinguish that from jump training, there is a much bigger problem. These should be the rudiments of coaching
English

Depth Jumps at 30-40 contacts is only one part of the discussion because Verkoshansky would prescribe 50-100 more squat jumps at like 40% of 1RM. There's a lot to unpack when we start discussing plyometric foot contacts. The first of which is literally "what are we even talking about when we say plyometrics?" Can't have a genuine discussion until that disconnect is fixed.
