Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi Says He Agrees With Demands for Mass Deportations of Illegal Foreigners by March and March Movement, Warning That Illegal Immigration is a “Ticking Time Bomb” Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said he agrees with the call by the March and March movement to deport undocumented migrants. He made the remarks while addressing a May Day rally organised by DENOSA in Brakpan. Lesufi cautioned protesters against carrying out attacks on foreign nationals. The premier received a memorandum from March and March during recent protests in Johannesburg. The group demanded stricter immigration laws, mass deportation of undocumented foreign nationals, tighter border control and action against crime linked to undocumented foreign nationals. Lesufi had earlier accepted the memorandum and promised a response within seven days. He noted growing public frustration over illegal immigration but stressed that primary responsibility lies with the national government. Lesufi described the situation as a ticking time bomb and called for lawful processes rather than violence. Lesufi concluded his address by reminding the audience of recent AI controversies involving two departments headed by the DA. The issue remains under discussion as the seven-day deadline for a formal government response approaches.

This one is using English to try explain the unexplainable. Gareth: “Chairperson, annoyance can be expressed in different way” Madlanga: “Show me where you expressed it in a different way” at this point, chairperson is also annoyed #MadlangaCommission

SAPS officers intercepted a truck transporting illicit cigarettes after a tip-off in Dwarsberg, North West, early today. The vehicle was tracked and stopped in Mabeskraal, where officers conducted a search that led to the arrest of a 35-year-old Botswana national. Illicit cigarettes with an estimated street value of over R2-million were seized during the operation. This case once again highlights the scale of the illicit cigarette trade, which continues to undermine South Africa’s economy, drain billions in tax revenue, and fuel broader organised crime networks. While the arrest and seizure are commendable, they also point to a deeper issue, the syndicates and kingpins behind these operations often remain untouched. Law enforcement efforts need to go beyond intercepting shipments. The focus must shift toward identifying and dismantling the leadership of these criminal networks. Kingpins who finance and coordinate these operations must be traced, arrested, and prosecuted if the cycle is to be broken. At the same time, there must be stricter action against manufacturers linked to illicit production. Factories found to be involved in the illegal cigarette trade should face immediate consequences, including the revocation of their operating licences. Without targeting both the supply chain and those at the top, the problem will persist. Police have welcomed the successful operation and continue to urge communities to provide information, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in tackling illicit trade and organised crime. @TaxJustice_SA @SAPoliceService @sarstax

Sure, he knows the MFMA and City of Tshwane procurement regulations but if evidence currently before the Commission is true, his behavior is all the more reprehensible. It's like a locksmith hired by you to fix your locks, cuts keys for himself and later use to enter your house without your permission to steal. He can't when caught defend himself by stating how strong and temper proof your locks are. People like him are proof corruption cannot end as long as the tender system is in place. It's the people who are employed to stop corruption who are its main perpetrators. They know every loophole in the system and how to cover their tracks. The flaunting of their I'll gotten wealth shows that they thought they would never be caught because they're the ones who were supposed to catch the crooks. They didn't know that a fed up police General would expose all of them in a press conference. They all come to the Commission very cocky, believing they're more intelligent than all of us by day 2 their cockiness evaporates when the evidence leaders and Commissioners tear into them like hungry pitbulls. They literally crumble before our eyes. The longer their statements are and the more their annextures are, the harder they fall. It's always great seeing them humbed by the truth.

OPINION: I agree. Gareth Mnisi has has demonstrated exceptional acumen and a comprehensive understanding of his field. His responses have been meticulous and detailed, setting a high standard compared to other senior officials who have appeared before the commission. I'm interested in the thorough explanation concerning the Nkosi matter and the allegations of tender manipulation. @Abramjee #MadlangaCommision

I’ve come across Gareth Mnisi a number of times while covering Tshwane and he’s exactly as he is today; sharp and incredibly well informed about the technical aspects of municipal processes. A conspicuously stark contrast to the previous witnesses who’ve appeared at Madlanga.
