@Tiare_MP Are there really people on the left saying they're on the right? All the (fair!) critiques I've seen are about how they'll be a wasted vote and ensure another term for the coalition

I’m confused people on the left are saying TOP is right wing and people on the right are saying TOP is left wing

Remarkable fact via @Nate_Cohn: white Texans have shifted so much to Democrats since 2016 that Kamala Harris would've essentially tied Trump in Texas had she managed to match Hillary's 2016 performance with Latino voters (which she most definitely didn't). nytimes.com/2026/05/27/ups…

@totaraforest To be fair, any economist will tell you the debate over a 2028/29 vs 2029/30 surplus is rather silly in that a $0.5b deficit vs. a $0.5b surplus is much less relevant than a $2b v $8b deficit, but the former gets the headlines

@okanepeter @liamvincent26 Plenty of times you have to use ID other than alcohol - banks, post offices etc. Seems pretty sensible given some elderly will lose licenses and/or don't have reasons to travel internationally

@DavidLiskov @trouble_man90 If you go back to the previous race Collins had, it also showed her opponent beating her in some of them. The 2020 polls were not off by margins of 10-20+ points. Collins is a uniquely strong opponent and it’s stupid sending in someone with this much baggage against her.

@sandylanceley @disco___cat What on earth does geographical size have to do with it? Sure some countries take time to form coalitions but plenty of others don't and have actually had more stable political leadership over the last couple of decades: Germany, New Zealand, and Sweden

@Nyujirando @disco___cat In Europe you often see months long negotiations, sometimes even a year in order to form government. I’m not sure that’s a particularly desirable system. Plus there’s no countries anywhere near our size geographically who use it.

@sandylanceley @disco___cat Who is in Parliament is who should govern. If people don't want a minor party in Government, they don't have to vote for one. PR works well in plenty of other countries

@disco___cat I get that, but I still think it would be preferred over a labor/greens coalition. Our system gives people more of a direct say on who will govern, not just who will sit in parliament. I think that’s better.

@_colourmeamused Other end of the island, but Abel Tasman is still beautiful in winter. Otherwise in Canterbury, the Godley Valley has some decent huts but just check the forecast so you won't be walking through snow

Long shot but does anyone know which are the best winter overnight hikes to do it NZ as a reasonably fit and prepared hiker on South Island, ideally in Otago, Canterbury, or Southland (yes I know I can ask DoC but they are so patronising it’s a waste of time)

@SophRiver @cowenscorn @henrycooke @NicolaWillisMP @cjsbishop Imane Khelif is a cis woman. If you're going to be transphobic at least do some basic research. Meanwhile in actual facts, this Government has supposedly protected women by reducing their pay by $12 billion and reduced access to family and sexual violence services.

Like overseas jurisdictions, NZ first has realised that passing laws based on a fallacy, laws that privilege and allow one group to pretend it belongs in another group - are bad laws that cause harm. This law is an attempt to balance the harm and ensure that women retain their own sports, prisons, changing rooms etc. Once again - You claim no evidence but you just have to open your eyes.... In the last Olympic Games - two men bashed women. In the US and around the world mediocre male athletes smash women's records. In NZ, Tracy Lambrechs missed out on an Olympic place, tournament $$$ because a middle-aged male took her place. In NZ, female prisoners have been sexually assaulted by males in female prisons. In NZ, many council owned women's changing rooms at your local pool will allow any perv in if they claim 'lady thinks'. At your local Parkrun, men can enter as women, cos they want to. Gender ideology is harming our youth, although it is on the wane as it loses traction overseas. Keep your head in the sand.

You posted a survey as evidence. It isn't. Also, if it was a non-existent problem, why did Scottish women go to the High Court to ensure women were defined correctly? Hint - read about Isla Bryson. The Scottish Prime Minister lost her job as a result of promoting false facts about women. In Australia, right now, Sal Grover is going to the High Court to ensure definitions of the sexes are true and hold integrity. Even Labour politicians are speaking out on the issue. In the US, the extreme stress on young girls is a crime. x.com/MaineGirlDads/… We don't want NZ making the same mistakes.
Maine Girl Dads@MaineGirlDads

“…my sister has witnessed [a male student masturbating in the female locker room]. She’s a freshman in high school, and she’s seen that… the girls don’t say anything because they’re scared to talk about it. They don’t want to cause problems.” - College freshman, Molly Curtis’ testimony in Augusta on 4/14/2026 Molly’s Testimony is clear: 🚨 Males have been masturbating in female private spaces, as witnessed by young females, in multiple schools. 🚨 Males are in Female private spaces (bathrooms and locker rooms) every day. This is very commonplace. 🚨 Young female athletes are too scared to speak up, for fear of retaliation. Why does the Maine Women’s Lobby (?!), Equality Maine, and many of our politicians continue to repeat the falsehood that “it’s not happening here” and that this is a “manufactured crisis”? They are gaslighting young females! You’d hope that organizations which purport to stand for Women and Equality would stand with us and with these young courageous females, fighting to end the daily violation of the Sex-based civil rights of Maine’s most vulnerable population: its children. Instead, they gaslight these young females, and champion sex-based discrimination in schools. This Sex-based discrimination is regressive, sexist, and illegal, and it MUST end. The ballot referendum to "Designate School Sports Participation & Facilities by Sex" protects the Sex-based Civil Rights of ALL kids: ✅ The act respects Gender Identity while recognizing Biological fact, designating all competitive sports and private spaces in public schools by innate Sex. ✅ Everyone has a Sex, and Sex is not Gender (definitionally, legally, scientifically) ✅ We have the progressive belief that there is no right or wrong way to be a male or female! Dress, feel, present, identify how you want. Sex is big enough for everyone, no matter how you identify. ✅ Nobody is banned. Ever. Everyone plays sports and accesses private spaces, simply designated by Sex.

@Nyujirando @henrycooke @NicolaWillisMP @cjsbishop Women are the vulnerable community predated on by men who want to be classed as female. It’s okay to seek treatment for mental health issues and it’s okay to identify as a broccoli but it doesn’t mean your broccoli

Old enough to remember when there was a big uproar every election year about Mike Hosking moderating the leaders’ debates, but he was actually a very good moderator.
