One hundred percent, I watched a couple of men (non German not sure where from) at the self checkout in Lidl, pretend to checkout and as soon as someone paid, he picked up his bags and followed right behind another customer who scanned his receipt to exit. I told the staff but they said they couldn't do anything but make note of it. It kills me how naive and conflict avoidant Germans are when people are literally abusing them.
