Talked to Manny Ramirez today about taking batting practice. He said today’s BP has become pull-side homers and exit velo. He and David Ortiz worked gap-to-gap. Middle of the field first. The home runs showed up on their own. That isn’t an accident. ⚾️ Habits are important!

Paul Skenes career velo by game.

A father told me his ten-year-old throws year-round on three teams. I asked what the rush was. A young arm does not bank innings, it spends them. Rest is not lost development. It is the development. The kids still pitching at eighteen are the ones who sat in the winter at ten.

Are the Brewers stat padding for their ace Jacob Misiorowski? This was clearly a hit, but the Brewers official scorer marked it as an error. As a result, Miz only had one earned run instead of FIVE. Hmmm. Makes you think for someone in NL CY Young Contention. What’s going on in Milwaukee?

I was interested in how Bat Speed and Swing Length intertwine with each other. Intuitively, it makes sense that a longer swing would result to higher speeds but could a short path and fast swing be the crown jewel. Notable takeways⬇️

David Peterson made a HUGE change to his fastball! Peterson is essentially throwing a cutter! Typically he's at 13" of carry with 3" of arm-side run, but in the 1st inning he was at 10" of carry with 0" of arm-side. That's a major boost in stuff!

PSA: GameChanger stats… Pitch counts, strike outs, walks and runs scored are the only basic stats that can’t be manipulated. Unless of course the person running GC forgets to change pitchers or has the lineup wrong. If the person running it struggles to differentiate between hits and errors, passed balls and wild pitches, stolen bases and indifference, almost everything you see will be inaccurate. Batting average, ERA, hits, hits allowed, earned runs, RBI’s, they will all be skewed and sometimes in a big way. GC has become a source of tension in our youth game. If this is happening on your team, the easiest solution is to stop using it. If parents and coaches want stats, let them keep their own book.
