We take no pleasure when having to police youngsters but on this occasion it was entirely necessary and proportionate

Following reports of fireworks being aimed at fans following last weeks @AVFCOfficial fixture, OSU officers have been deployed this evening and are happy to report 6 youths have been detained this evening in possession of a qty of fireworks. Happy to help fans feel reassured 👍

@Kashmuni_ @WMPolice @AVFCOfficial @FootballUnitWMP Hi, they weren't arrested. Unfortunately we can't go back in time to last week so this was a preventative measure to stop it happening again. All youths had their fireworks confiscated and parents contacted who came and took them home.

Last weeks behaviour was totally unacceptable and many fans expressed their concerns before this evening's match. Working with @FootballUnitWMP and @WMPVillaFC it has hopefully been quelled but we'll continue to monitor future matches to ensure the safety of fans 👍
