An optocoupler is an electronic device that sends a signal using light while keeping two circuits electrically separate. It is used to protect sensitive parts of a circuit from high voltage, reduce noise & safely connect control circuits to power circuits. It's used in power supply regulation, microcontroller protection, motor control & switching high-voltage loads.

Biologists have been unpacking the mystery of the flagellar motor for decades. It wasn’t until this year that the final pieces of its dynamic puzzle finally fell into place. “My lifelong quest is now fulfilled,” said Mike Manson, a professor emeritus of biophysics at Texas A&M University who started studying the flagellar motor in the 1970s. “I finally understand how this thing I’ve been studying for 50 years actually works. That’s about as satisfying as can be.” quantamagazine.org/what-physical-…

Want to learn how to analyze an RF device block by block, without any docs? Here's a thread I've written on exactly that, with a real product as the example. Some sort of high-level reverse engineering for beginners.
Mehdi@MehdiHacks

How to analyze an RF PCB and the signal path. In this thread I will show you how to understand various sections of a real world product (thinkRF's 28GHZ downconverter), without having access to block diagram, schematics or even test equipment. 1/11

What you really need to know about variable resistors or potentiometers, pots. Whether you call them variable resistors, potentiometers, or simply "pots," these components are essential electronic components of the electronics world. From the volume knob on a vintage radio to the precision adjustment in a high-end medical device, variable resistors allow us to bridge the gap between fixed circuit design and real-world adjustability. Drawing on insights from my Electronics Notes website, here is a breakdown of why these components are essential and how to choose the right one for your project: 1. Potentiometer vs. Preset: Know the Difference • Adjustable (Potentiometers): These feature a spindle and knob, designed for frequent user interaction (think volume or tone controls). • Presets (Trimmers): These are small, internal components adjusted during manufacture or maintenance. They are meant to be "set and forget." 2. Material Matters The "track" material changes everything from power handling to noise levels: • Carbon Composition: The most common and cost-effective. • Cermet: A ceramic-metal composite ideal for high temperatures and offering much lower noise than carbon. • Wirewound: Often used for high-power applications where precision and durability are paramount. 3. Linear vs. Logarithmic Taper This is where many designers get tripped up! • Linear (LIN): Resistance changes at a constant rate. Best for most measurement and calibration tasks. • Logarithmic (LOG): Resistance changes slowly at first and then rapidly. Why? Because human hearing is logarithmic! We need a "Log" pot for audio volume so the increase sounds smooth to our ears. 4. Rotary vs. Slider • Rotary: Space-efficient and the standard for most "knob" interfaces. • Sliders: Common in audio mixers and lighting desks. They provide a clear visual representation of settings across multiple channels. In a world moving toward digital-everything, the tactile, reliable nature of the variable resistor remains a cornerstone of electronic design. Are you working on a project that requires precise calibration? Or perhaps designing a user interface that needs that perfect "analogue feel"? More information in the link in the comments. #Electronics #Engineering #HardwareDesign #CircuitDesign #ElectricalEngineering #Potentiometer #electroniccomponents #TechTips

Before we can use a FPGA, we need to design it correctly on to its board. Tomas Chester is one of the best there is at this, his latest Horizon article looking at Sparse vs Dense breakout is one you should definitely read. Either as electronic engineer or FPGA designer. issuu.com/fpga-horizons/…
