You’ve probably seen those photos in Australia, of rows of shiny new Chinese electric cars just sitting there. If the Facebook loons are to be believed, they are all dead batteries left to rot, cars that nobody wants or pre registered to the manufacturer to boost sales figures. All of which are of course wrong, the loons usually are, given they see a picture or headline and just make up their own story to stroke their self esteem. Weird, I know. But here’s the deal… BYD for example, imported 51,000 electric cars to Australia last year. 38,000 were sold. So why the surplus “abandoned on car parks”? The answer is much more simple than they’ll have you believe. It’s stock. Yes, unsold stock, waiting to be sold. Just like every other car manyfacturer has in the world. Do these people really think when you order a Toyota, it’s hand made to order? So whatever story they tell, to make themselves feel better about their 2007 diesel Volvo, who’s annual service costs more than my annual charging costs, remember… Ask them for proof. Their reply is always amusing. Stay rattled.

#Bajet2023: Import duty and excise as well as the Fi Approved Permit (AP) will be exempted for electric vehicles that are imported until 31 December 2023. Factories that manufacture EV charging equipment will be 100% income tax exempted (between YA 2023-2032).
