You did it again. Same thing. When the NT (or Irenaeus of Lyons when wrote Against Heresies roughly around AD 180–190) says “the Scriptures,” it is referring to the Old Testament, because the New Testament canon did not yet exist as a completed collection. For example in 2 Tim. 3:15, Timothy could only have known the OT “from childhood.”

@OfOttawa @eva_hodor @Eli_StayFocused @JPuncut "handed down to us in the Scriptures" Almost like he's talking about physical writings which are to be understood as the "ground and pillar of our faith." Weird. This is the problem with EO's speculations & anachronisms, treating the word like a wax nose. x.com/CharlesTheLess…

15 minutes in and it was already conceded and granted to @JPuncut that there is nothing in scripture that teaches the veneration, or prayer to saints, or asking dead saints to pray on your behalf. @OfOttawa basically says that it doesn't need to be found in scripture. youtube.com/live/8o-jo0nu0…

The “Gospel” they are referring to is the good news and apostolic teaching of Christ’s death and resurrection — not “four books modern people call the Gospel”. This is the problem with Protestants going off half-cocked and interpreting Scripture in a vacuum, detached from how the early Church actually functioned and ignorant of the meaning of words.

You only have the Scriptures because God created a Church to write, compile and transmit the Bible to you. If the earliest Christians were Protestants, they *never* practiced Christianity, because they *only* had the Apostles of Christ to teach them and show them how to live as Christians — they did not yet the luxury of ignoring the Bishops and Church authority established by the Apostles themselves and confirmed throughout the New Testament.

@JPuncut @OfOttawa And this is why we stick to scripture as Protestants, as normal regular Joe Bob, time of the disciples Christians. The EO knows this is not found in scripture, it's a man made doctrine, and they follow it because the Bishops say so.

Mr. Eli, stay focused. I did not concede there is nothing in scripture teaching intercession of the saints. I conceded if one makes the wrong assumption the - only acceptable evidence is finding - within a narrowly limited, early, and arbitrary time frame -a written spruce saying “prayer to saints is permitted, in case Protestants ask you for proof 2000 years from now,” you won't find it because that is silly. That is not the same thing.

@TheologosYT @Ofthalmo1 You are correct @Ofthalmo1 . He is dressing up with fancy words, but he basically said “bad internet men make bad feelings decides the Truth of Christ for me.”

@Ofthalmo1 Did you read or what? I’m already a Christian and no, not entirely based on emotions. If truth is being clouded by hatred and nasty speech (something Andrew Wilson is known for) then the person not able to see the truth is not entirely at fault.

I will not disclose my own denomination at this moment, but if I were hypothetically not Orthodox, and Andrew Wilson or Jay Dyer were my first introductions to Orthodox Christianity, I would never become Orthodox. Much like if I knew nothing about Islam, but my exposure consisted of anyone in the "Dawah" circle, I would be completely disgusted at the religion simply from that exposure alone.

Jordan Peterson’s role in changing the public conversation about religion is undeniable. The point he made here (2018) was arguably his most important. What sits atop the hierarchy of your values is your “God.” In this way, everyone is religious.

Cleave is not telling the truth here. Surprising? Not really. I only recently became aware of him, but from what I’ve seen already, he publicly bore false witness against Radar Apologetics by accusing him of being a Judaizer who teaches that a person must keep the Mosaic law in order to be saved (see here: youtu.be/tX1HTv-Mzk4?t=…). This is completely false. Radar does NOT believe this. Mind you, all of this is in the context of a false accusation circulating about Avery, that he raided a stream where people were attacking Orthodoxy. Avery still maintains, as he always has, that he does not attack Orthodoxy, Catholicism, or Protestantism, nor does he promote attacks against them. This is also connected to another ugly and false accusation that Avery is a grifter, and that his motivation for being ecumenical is to make money. Then Cleave represents me as saying, "Andrew Wilson said a 'no no' word! Therefore he has bad fruit!" when all I did was ask if Andrew viewed the things I questioned him on as sinful, and depending on how he answered (he didn't) I would have followed up. (Simply see my post: x.com/JaiNDoC_RL/sta…) He also made the completely evil, bizarre insinuation that I am part of some group that depicts Orthodox nuns as demons and calls for their deaths. I have never been part of any such group in my life. God forbid! In fact, I have aunts who are/were nuns. So this is not only false, it is a disgustingly evil thing to attribute to someone, someone you don't even know. Why would anyone who loves and fears God speak so carelessly and make such a wicked and false accusation against another person? In regard to what AP said in the screenshot, I’m going to assume he already knows this, given the pattern of misrepresenting people, but he is portraying AP as if he currently holds to this or it represents some "group". He doesn't. He has publicly repented of it and said it was wrong. (See here: x.com/ApostateProphe…) I genuinely have zero desire to interact with this guy. I just wanted to make this post for the record. May the Lord Jesus have mercy on us all.

Well thank you for saying. My goal was to put together something that you could listen to and grapple with, and could create a space for one to consider whether my point was valid. At least be clear. I didn’t want to or maybe I just didn’t have the ability to put together an air tight case in 30 minutes that would kind of leave one no choice but to declare me a winner. It was a good time and I hope I did a modest amount of justice to our great tradition.

@JPuncut @OfOttawa jp uncut believes the saints do pray for us and are aware of what is happening. If he were to die, he believes he would tell God to look out for these people on earth. His only complaint is asking the saints to pray for you.
