Why doesn’t the BBC ask senior NHS managers why there is no manpower plan? Why do they not fill vacancies? Why do they use so many agency staff? Why do they not pay good people more within pay scales or with promotions? Why can’t they get staff onside?

Steve Barclay wants doctors and nurses to increase their labour productivity. That can only mean a) seeing more patients in less time, cutting appointment and caregiving time or b) working longer for the same pay. Is he mad?
