@gmiller @OpenAI I don't think it's the case that they'd need to stop superintelligence research for the claim that "EA has influenced them" to be true. EA makes many claims and people are influenced to varying degrees!

@gmiller @OpenAI It could be PR, but it seems plausible they'd agree with claims like "if you want to improve health/wellbeing, fund the most cost-effective thing" or "the threat from AI-enabled bioterrorism is real" Those are claims the EA community has made salient.

OpenAI founders spend millions on lobbyists bashing EA, but their foundation will focus on... Health, AI safety and biosecurity. EA principles have influenced tech giving in a profoundly positive way, far more than some care to admit. openai.com/index/update-o…

“WTBU” is one of the most useful communication technologies I know of. It stands for “Watch Team Back-Up”, I believe it originated to reduce mistakes on nuclear submarines. You prepend it to a message to someone where you’re pointing out something that might be obvious, but you want to check/confirm that they’re on top of it. For example, you might say “WTBU: you checked that we’re cleared to share this info with XYZ person?” It takes the pressure/ego out of the message, by letting you communicate something to the effect of “I’m not saying this because I think you’re incompetent/dumb, so ignore this if it isn’t relevant/useful—I just really want to make sure we don’t mess up/make silly mistakes, and smart/competent people can make silly mistakes!”—except once you’ve coordinated on using the letters WTBU to communicate that, you can just say “WTBU:”. This lets you now check basic/obvious things with coworkers much more easily and with less ego/emotion, which makes it much easier to catch mistakes in advance. Worth considering adopting into your org as a standard communication practice!

.@WisprFlow is probably the product I'm getting the most value from in my life beyond my laptop + LLMs. It's the first voice dictation app I've used that faithfully reproduces what I'm saying. Incredible when combined with an LLM! wisprflow.ai

Model specs for LLMs seem like a very important moment for practical ethics. It's now time to explain to a very intelligent being how it _ought_ to behave! I thought this was a very sensible first pass (and more sensible than many ethics papers) anthropic.com/constitution
